Got a question. It is based on a few "if's".

If LA makes the playoffs and Leafs get the 2nd in the Laughton trade, the Leafs also tank enough to get their top 5 pick, and then the Leafs sign McMann and Laughton in the off-season, do those actually become good trades then?

The Leafs would have got 2 2nds and a 4th for two players they eventually re-signed anyway and those trades helped them tank enough to get the top 5 pick in a deep top 10 draft.

Absolutely it does and I feel that was the thinking behind it but McMann really fit into his new team so I think he stays put but Laughton will jump to come back home with the Leafs opened arms to greet him.

I think that Toronto could get better players than McMann and Laughton in Free agency.

Perhaps
Charlie Coyle
Mason Marchmont
AJ Grier
Stenlund

PG. Not the point. I said "if" all these things happen, do what people considered bad trades become good trades?

To many if's to make a early decision. A lot to factor in... length and amount of potential contracts is the biggest and of course to review it 3 years from now on the performance of those players on how the trades pan out.

Suffering. If it takes all those factors, like what are the contracts etc and 3 years to review it before one can make a decision on whether it was good or not, than why were so many upset with the returns to begin with?
If we retain that top 5 pick, no doubt moving McMann, Laughton and Roy helped do it.

If the Leafs get a top 5 pick, plus the 1st, 2 2nds, a 4th and a 5th, that would seem like a pretty successful TDL. Especially if they then re-sign even one of McMann or Laughton. No?

Laughton pick just became a 2nd. But no thank you on signing him or McMann. Time to move on; look at different players. Hopefully the new GM comes in, fires Berube, and brings in a guy that has a wider vision of what hockey is than just playing a heavy game.

Then bring in players that bring more balance than just heavy players that can't keep up with the speed of the NHL today.

It has been reported that that McMann is looking for $5M x 5 years.
I would prefer Marchment for that kind of money.
Laughton is a 3th line player who want to be paid like a middle 6 player.
I would prefer Quillan on an ELC manning the 4th line center position.
