Not sure if someone has done this before, so.

Nash
Rielly $7.5M

Tor
Stamkos $8M

I was looking for somewhere Rielly might waive for, and in this case somewhere Stamkos might waive for. Any move of Rielly is probably a net gain for him and the team atm.

For Nash, they pick up a LD that can slot in on the 2nd pair behind Josi and add some offence from the backend. He is also younger than Stamkos. For most of Rielly's career, he has been better than he is playing now. Change of scenery may do him good. If his play rebounds, Nash's D would be much better.

Leafs take on Stamkos at his age, who is still scoring and would add good leadership and offers up that one-timer threat on the PP. He may offer an upgrade on JT if wanting to put him at centre as he has better speed. He is signed for 2 years less than Rielly, which is more in the Leafs window. He contemplated coming home on the past, maybe he would still like to.

I would love it
But man Morgan sure smells this season
I think Nashville sees that.

Anything to get rid of Rielly.
But I would prefer to send him to San Jose for someone 10 years younger than Stamkos.

I agree with all except moving tavares to the wing, Tavares is way better in the draw and typically defensively. Stammer also has spent most of the last few years on the wing, at least in Tampa.

shanacant. I never said move JT to the wing. I was more thinking he becomes the 3C. Stamkos has been playing centre this year a decent amount. He has taken over 350 draws at at 55.6% win rate. He took almost 800 draws last year as well. He has better wheels than Tavares and this allows the Leafs to move either Laughton or Roy to the wing if they keep them. Matthews, Stamkos, JT down the middle looks like an improvement over the current imo.

Only issue is here is they already have Skeji and Hague signed to multi year deals like Reilly. Makes no sense unless one of them is coming back to Leafs. Some ppl suggested swapping Skeji for Rielly b4. Both need change of scenery. Cap is identical $7.5 R and $7m Sk. I’d prefer Hague at $5.5 and has the same term left like Rielly at a $2m asv savings.

Skeji point production has dropped drastically and he has become a giveaway machine in Nash. Hague provides little offence and Hague is a really good 3rd pair D if slotted properly. If they could provide offence, they wouldn't need to consider Rielly. Rielly is good for 40+ points a season and Josi is not getting any younger. The only reason Nash would do it is to get more speed and offence from their D while adding to it while not subtracting from it.
