To me, these two moves would change the Leafs drastically.

Let's just make it straight up and assume this goes through, which I believe Lou would be interested. They need firepower and that team is getting old fast. He won't want to waste the best years of Horvat and Barzal. Defence is their strength. Trade from a point of strength.

Decent return for CLB for a guy they are not playing and they take on no cap.

Leafs get Dobson and Peeke for the cap cost of Nylander. Because they would be using no LTIR to add, they would have all of Klingbergs LTIR to use to bring in another forward with skill. Could the Leafs then make a play for a guy like Konecny as an example. If Leafs offered Liljegren, Robertson and a 2024 1st, could that get it done?

If so, it is Nylander and Liljegren out and 3 players with term in. Dobson, Peeke, Konecny. This improves the team this year and next year since these 3 are signed, they have tons of cap space to add to the team to fill spots.

Tags. You asked my opinion on Dobson. I think LL nailed it. Possible growth to a #1, but a top pair I think is almost certain with a floor of a very good #3. He skates very well, moves the puck well, can run a PP. He is not overly physical for his size, but a very solid defender already at 23. Very smart. Massive minute muncher. I think he is the real deal.

I love the targets but I think the Leafs would add to get Dobson. Like retaining on Willy and adding Lily. Or even a Pulock and Wahlstrom plus a 1st (come in handy at TDL) for Nylander and Lily. I personally don’t see a spot for Lily anymore. I’d rather have Lagesson, Benoit or Gio playing their opposite side over Lily. IMO.

@RLF I'm all on board if it means bringing in Konecny. he scored another one last night. this is what i would offer Philly to get him:

@Clarky17 I think the trade is more than fair IMO. Maybe even the Islanders should be the ones adding another small piece.
Nylander is a proven top line RW, whereas Dobson is not yet proven as a top line pairing. He may be in future, but not proven as of yet.

@RLF I love the targets as well, but hate to trade Nylander. I think the values are good and would do the trade only if the Philly deal also happens.

@Clarky. As I said, let's just assume the Dobson/ Nylander deal is excepted. On that, it's funny, before the season started I suggested Nylander for Dobson and Dufour. The vast majority on here told me it was nowhere near enough for Willy. It would have to be Dobson, Wahlstrom and a 1st (something along those lines) to make it worth while. Now it seems most think Dobson is great and NYI wouldn't accept a straight up deal and Toronto probably needs to add, even though Willy is having a career year. Many of these are the same people that told me that I was undervaluing Willy and no way Leafs should trade Nylander for that Dobson.

Crazy how 20 games into the next season changes so many minds.

Sorry I agree that you have to add. Good young D are very hard to come by. NHL is defence/ goalie first or it would be Edmonton and Toronto in the finals every year.

LOL. Guys, I'm not arguing that the Leafs may add, I was just saying, let's assume it happens and here is what else that could be done to transform the team in 3 moves for now and future.

Benoit, Gregor, Steeves are RFA's. Look at bringing back McMann on the cheap.

Cap space approx. 22M for RFA's and UFA's to fill out roster.
