If I were Lou (we do have the same haircut!)

Hyman Matthews Brown
Marleau Kadri Marner
Johnson Nylander Kapanen
Grundstrom Altonen ?

I think our top 9 is solid! And we have enough prospects to fill in 4th line and injuries. Of course a veteran would be nice but NOT at the cost of any young talent. Think we have forwards covered in my opinion

Reilly ? NEED!!
Dermott ? NEED!!
Zaitsev Hainsey - 5th, 6th and PK

Anderson
Pikard

Trade poor gardiner before he has a nervous breakdown, skilled player but not cut out for the media in toronto...lol..who is!!...

also trade Martin, great guy but I don't see a fit for him on this team. Might have to eat salary here but should be done

I see Lilegren as the eventual #2 RHD in 2 years say, but who do we get for #1 RHD? and who can we get for a couple years til Lilegren is ready?

I would LOVE to see Doughty in a leaf Jersey!

TO L.A. :
Gardiner, Bracco, 1st rd (2018),2nd rd (2019) and a 3rd whenever?..or does L.A. hang up the phone on me? ..lol

Just a thought but 2 Dmen would be my off season main focus. Excited to see what Lou (or dubas) has up his sleeve for this summer

Honestly, d-men seem great but I'm over that fact now personally. Too soon to tell but look what happened to Tampa today, they have hedman, Mcdonagh, stralman, sergyachev and they allowed 6 goals. I say we keep the fire power going stron, add to it, and keep our D now. if Andersen played like his normal self this series, it could've gone way different. Even with Gardiners mistakes. I personally don't think the leafs are going to trade for a top 4 D man anymore, they're too expensive.

Marquesboy. So d are too expensive so we don’t do anything but wait for our own to maybe develop? Yup that works. not.

3.) 29 Apr 2018 16:45:35
So you're just going to overpay for whatever defencemen becomes available? All the D men you've been posting about are either not getting traded or don't fit our team lmao. I think they're going to make either small trades or bring in guys like Hainsey this off season but they're going to bring in more forward depth. Remember how Pittsburgh won the Stanley cup last year with no defencemen? Yup that works!

Leafs probably won’t trade for a top pairing RHD, even though they should. The cost in trade value is going to be very high. If anything, Leafs should try to sign a big name next off season when there are going to be so many available. Gardiner burned his last bridge in game 7. I don’t expect he will be back once his contract is over. Unfortunately for Leafs fans, we will probably have Gardiner on the team again for next year, as I don’t really expect Leafs to trade him either, unless Dermott has an outstanding start to the year.

Gardiner will be given another year to redeem himself. As it is his contract year, we can only hope that he really steps up his game and can play at a higher level.

No sense in trading Gardiner, I've been saying all along you want as much depth as possible. Worst case scenario you play Dermott more later on the the season and give Gardiner less ice time. He still posted 50 points in the regular season which was third best for NHL D-Men 5v5 points. We'd never get his value if we traded him, just play him less if he's as bad as what everyone thinks.

Gotta agree with MarquesMen. Hopefully Dermott makes it easier to drop Gardiner down the depth chart. It’s impossible to say right now. If Dermott has a bad year next year, that puts Toronto in a bit of a bind. What do they do if they don’t trust Dermott enough to take 2LHD? If Gardiner has another good year and doesn’t screw up in the playoffs, he will be a lot of money to re-sign. The plan is to replace Gardiner with Dermott, but what if Dermott sucks next year and Gardiner does well?

At bare minimum, Gardiner is there in case Rielly gets hurt again. He’s good insurance against injury. Worst case scenario, he drops down in depth chart a little. He gets less ice time and Dermott gets more.

It's pretty much a gamble to be honest, got to just hope for the best. I can't see him being a bust but who knows.

Penguins had some good players last year on defense. Schultz, Hainsey, Cole, Streit. If Letang wasn’t hurt, he is an all-star.

Pittsburgh won through offense, yes. But their defense didn’t blow games for them like ours did.

Leafs need to address their defense before any other issue. Finding a real star for the back end should be Leafs major concern going forward.

If Matthews wants to win, he should be willing to take a bit of pay cut so Leafs can throw a couple extra million at Doughty.

Gardiner has played like a riverboat gambler his entire career as a leaf. what makes you think leafsgm and Marquesboy that will change? It won’t change. Enough already. His haphazard play in game 7 cost the leafs the series. so let’s keep him and hope he doesn’t screw up? Pittsburgh won with the great Crosby backed up by Malkin. do you people watch hockey? No team has anything to beat that one two ouch yet. but give yourself a chance at least with a solid d core that is why the leafs need to improve that and “overpay”? No you pay what the market calls for and if that means mr softie nylander then you do it. the leafs need that stud on d it is so clear after the last couple of years.
