Trade proposal for after playoffs considering Detroit doesn't make the playoffs.

If this happens, I feel as if Detroit will start a rebuild as their core is older and in need of younger fresh players.

To TOR: Zetterberg (50% retained)
To DET: Leipsic, 2 Second rounders

Thought for this:
The leafs are in need of an experienced veteran who can show all the kids what being successful in the NHL is like. Zetterberg would be a perfect guy for our team and even though his contract is pretty bad, plays till he's 40 (3 more years after this year) at 6 million a year, we wouldn't be acquiring him as a first line guy and he would only cost us 3 million a year. We could put him on Kadri's line, possibly on the wing to finish his career and he'd be a reliable two way player.

People will probably complain about giving up on Leipsic and the second rounders but the Leafs are looking to be way ahead of schedule and we need to make a push in the 2018-2019 season. Although Leipsic is doing well in the AHL, I don't think Hunter will have a problem drafting a player like him, one with more size aswell. Wingers come a dime a dozen, it won't be a problem replacing him.

If you believe rumours, it was rumoured Zetterberg was one who was glad to see Babcock go.

No chance

Goes against everything the leafs are trying to build right now. Not only that, 3 years left on his contract probably equates to 1.5 actual years playing time due to injuries.

Don't worry, if the Leafs are truly close at making a run at the cup, they will be set up quite well with cap room and tradable assets to acquire the necessary pieces.

Remember the goal is not to have 1 shot at the cup but to start a new tradition of the leafs being really good and having a chance every year.

Kind of like this one. Thinking outside the box. Opens up some possibilities. Kadri's wing, could trade Komarov. Marners centre, could trade Bozak. At 3M a year, not a bad price and still flipable. One down side is taking a roster spot from a prospect. Maybe take out one of seconds and replace with Corrado.

are you a wings fan? this is a terrible trade for the leafs, hunter is lights out in the draft so the 2 seconds would be a massive loss. that package alone would get you a much better, younger player. it would be more intelligent to wait until the offseason to acquire a player that's a proven winner ( if that's the direction the leafs go) . for nothing other than money.

Why do we have to make a push next year? Why can't we let out guys develop and see what happens? Why would you give up 2nd rounders and a prospect for a guy who's on the decline and has only a couple years left. Bad trade

Leafs are not even close to a Stanley cup contender our d is weak on the RD and we need to focus on improving that. Zetterberg would want to go to a Stanley cup contending team! So no thanks
