Trade
Matthews
To
Arizona for
Lawson Crouse, C. Dvorak, 1st 2020, 2nd 2021

Matthews is a bum. He slucks about not a good effort by team, he needs to look in mirror and see a spoiled little brat who wants all the praise with no effort from myself. Trade him back to his home state and get players that have heart!

Mathews is worth way more. I understand the frustration with Mathews as he has a long way to go defensively though I believe he will become a complete player, his still young and developing.

I’m very interested to see what value the leafs will get in return for Matthews when the time comes. Right now is certainly not that time.

If someone offer sheeted Matthews what he makes now, the compensation would have been 4x1sts. So any trades involving Matthews would have to start with 4x1sts or equivalent in pics/ prospects. Personally, I don’t like that idea though. That is what a rebuilding team would do. If we trade Matthews for some reason, I would prefer an established similar level skill player back. We have the real deal 100% already. What’s the point in taking a chance with four lousy 1sts? You could draft four players 1st overall and they won’t be as good as Matthews. Just look at Edmonton before they finally got McDavid.

I still wouldn't do that Craigger. Quantity only equals quality on rebuilding teams looking for young pieces. The return for Mathews would have to be a 1C, top 4D, A prospect and a pick for me.

Dubas did make a mistake 3 players @ 11.5 million does not work, then the overpayment for Nylander. Brian Burke was right in saying, there was 5 or 6 million to be saved. Certainly wonder if Babock coaching influenced the Matthews camp holding strong on just a 5 yr deal. That automatically negated any chance he would get the C, though the summer incident made that decision a little easier to give the C to Tavares. Matthews getting one shot on net in the recent loss with Hutchinson in net was abysmal, as was the 4 goal 2nd period or 5 goal 3rd period vs Philly. Seems heart is not in a Toronto uniform? Maybe he needs a mental reset, to his 4 goal opening night and play for his big pay. High rewards for playing the game you love, does come with huge expectations particularly in Toronto. He needs to get over that or yes Leafs will need to move on. Does not seem to be an issue for Tavares or Marner, particularly being drafted 1st overall, are those not the guys that gravitate towards the spotlight? Tavares would suggest yes, Matthews not so much. Beyond the lacking toughness or physicality, fails to see techniques like Lemieu, Jagr, Ovechkin, Weber and bigger players use, sometimes you have to lean on guys or use your big butt, but you have to be prepared to work for it. Some huge talents failed to recognize such ie Alexi Yashin, lack of phyicality and work ethic negate the presence of any star player it is a team game.

I’m not trading Mathews unless I am getting a package of Courtier and Provorov or Barkov and Ekblad or Pederson and Hughes.

You won't get Barkov+Ekblad or Hughes + Peterson lol that's fleecing the other team.

If brain Burke had any idea what he was talking about he wouldn't be on Sportsnet he would have been part of a parade in Toronto and had a job as a GM somewhere. Instead he voices his useless opinion.

I always loved the way Jagr would stick his ass out to protect the puck. Because he was so tall and big, it created a huge amount of space that he could control the puck in to make his plays.
