Tor: Kapanen Bracco
Car: bean

Do I think this trade would get you bean maybe idk but with the canes picking up Gardiner you got to think a trade maybe be coming for them I would make a Marner trade but the value is not there Toronto would need a top 6 forward plus a bean and I don't think the canes would do that

I think dealing with carolina is wise. The deal you suggest i'm a bit iffy about. I don't think it would take kapanen plus to get bean . that's up for debate probably.

My thinking is go after fleury without dealing Bracco. Now with gardiner and fosling additions it seems fleury has to fight just to get on the ice. Why not try to pick him up and let him play fulltime on the bottom pair until dermott gets back.

Kapanen for fleury and matheos.

thats my suggestion anyways. if leafs could get bean and he stays injury free then go for it but fleury might be the safer way to go.

Thoughts.

I think you could probably get bean for Kapanen alone. It's a risky prop though for sure and I think we will all vary wildly on the value of this.

I wouldn’t trade either of those two guys, separately for jake bean. You are right to be focusing on Carolina. Somethings got to give there.

@bettsy you wouldn't trade Bracco for bean? That seems like a deal to me. Both may breakout but are unknown as of yet and both teams are stacked at that position.

Bean is absolutely not worth a player like Kapanen. The value of defensemen is getting ridiculous on this site.

Bean is a great player had 44 points +17 in his first full year those are some great numbers Dermott could possibly play the right side with bean sliding in the bottom pair

Next year maybe the left side

Reilly
Bean
Sandin

The leafs maybe be able to trade Bracco straight up for him as the canes need forwards and the leafs need quality d.

Leafs1994.Bean appears to be solid but those numbers were AHL numbers. TJ Brennan had better numbers consistantly for years in the AHL and it never worked out for him at the NHL level. I do think Bean will be good but definetly not worth kapanen yet so adding bracco is overkill.

Carolina is a team to deal with since they have 8 capable dmen.

Again I agree with what you’s are saying I just think bean is a highly rated prospect honestly I don’t think he’s far behind the likes of guys like Makar I just think Carolina is such a strong team on the blue line there hasn’t been room for bean to come up.

If I was Fleury I would be asking for a trade at this point anyway.

I’ve given up on trying to figure out Waddell’s fascination with defensemen. His strategy is not like anything I’ve ever seen, picking up and dumping defensemen like they were commodities. I mean is Gardiner really all that much better than DeHaan that Waddell basically have DeHaan away. And all the while, he’s ruining all his own pic’s development. Hanifin, Fleury, Bean, Pesce. It must be frustrating to constantly have to fight for your job against outsiders. If they gave their own players a shot first, they would succeed. But now these guys are all going to have limited minutes again next year, or play in the minors. They risk losing those guys to become ahl’ers and not worth anything in the trade market anymore. Waste of 1st round picks. If he’s going to be bringing in free agents every year, he should be looking at trading his assets in defense for forward help, which is where they really need someone. Not another 2nd tier defenseman that is good, but not good enough.

Problem with dealing with carolina is they are now 2 million over the cap with the gardiner signing. The differance between carolina and torontos situation is torontos cap includes a couple ltir cap hits so the leafs get releif. Carolina doesn't have this luxery. They are going to need to trade with a team that has the space to make a net gain of 2 million in cap space . toronto does not have this.

As far as Marner, my belief is that he has a deal in place and media is just blowing the situation up more than it really is. He doesn't need to sign yet. In fact leafs can negotiate other stuff until first day of regular season. Marner signs a deal better than anyone thinks and LTIR covers the rest. media makes things up to pay their bills.
The only thing marner not signing does is other teams RFAs don't sign either. The leafs can still manage minus an rfa. can all the other teams?

I think Carolina got Gardiner for cheap. Leafs probably could have re-signed him if they wanted. I guess they just had enough of him.

Gardiner, its like he was never a leaf in my mind.
