MARNER

BUFF
RISTOLAINEN AND REINHART

RISTOLAINEN HAS A CAP HIT OF $5.4 MIL SIGNED FOR 3 MORE YEARS AND REINHART IS AT $3.6 FIR 2 MORE YEARS SO BOTH JUST SO HAPPEN TO ADD UP TO JUST OVER 9 MIL AND that's ABOUT ALL WE GOT LEFT
REINHART IS ONLY 23 AND HAS PUT UP ALMOST IDENTICAL NUMBERS THEN MITCH IN GOALS AND HELPERS ASIDE FROM LAST YEAR WHEN PLAYING WITH JT WHY couldn't he DO THE SAME

This is actually a relatively fair trade and as much as it is trading him to Buffalo could be torture for years to come.

Would I do it, possibly but I would want Buffalo to add a 1st in a future year. The value for Mitch is 4 1st round picks.

i like this trade. but instead of ristolainen, i think montour is the better choice.

dubas likes his players skilled and speedy. he's the opposite of hunter. montour would fit better than ristolainen and makes a lot less errors playing actual defense.

Just a point to make, I do like this trade and conversely to @LeafsGM, I do prefer Ristolainen over Montour. Ristolainen is more of what the Leafs need to add. Adding Barrie added that offensive input.

However, Reinart is only signed for 1 more year. If the Leafs could get an opportunity to negotiate with him now, it may be worth it.

I do like this deal whether its montour or ristolainen. i mean do you like veggies or fruit better. they would both in their own way improve the leafs to having 6 capable dman. i mean that makes demott and ceci your 3 rd pairing. not too shabby

Marner is a stud but 20 goals 60 points in reinhart with the capabilities to play center isn't a bad replacement when you consider just how dominent this D now looks.

I mean if you want to ask for a 1st i don't see that hurting. just wish nylander was on buffalo still so that could be the extra player coming back but whatever.

Good proposal.

I don’t think the leafs need another offensive dman Risto would be a good pick up for the right price marner is not the right price maybe if we don’t resign Barrie at the end of the year a trade may make more sense for him.

Marner on his elc this deal is a no go. marner accepting 6 years @ 10 million is a no go.

Marner demanding 11.5 for only 4 years is the only reason .2 guys under 10 million combined who are ok players is worth the deal only because leafs can't fit marner under his demands. move on and be happy

Last year this is a non starter deal. nylander for these 2 was worth it but not marner. now its marners turn to be the center of trade rumors.

@howkingstone

Why didn’t people like the trade then?

I once suggested Reinhart and Dahlin for Marner. I was surprised how many people said no. I wouldn’t expect the same response now.

Reinhart had a real breakout year last season. Prior to that I would say Marner is far more valuable. But 65 points for Reinhart last year leads me to believe that on a better team like the Leafs, who play a far more offensive game, Reinhart could hit 80 points. I also probably said no to Ristolainen then too, same as I am saying now. Buffalo didn’t have Montour then though.
