Leafs trade Kapanen
Washington trades Vrana

Apparently Matthews and Kapanen are on very unfriendly terms, and Matthews has gone public saying he would rather not have Kapanen as his linemate next year.

A public feud between the team’s biggest star and his most regular pairing linemate last season is bad blood in the system. It’s a can’t win for the team. If it gets bad enough, maybe we can trade Kapanen for support on the left wing?

He said it wasn’t personal he said he thought him and kapanen didn’t work well together which is fine I think Nylander is more suited to play with Matthews cause he needs a play maker therefore this trade wouldn’t happen.

I would argue Kappy is as valuable as Matthews right now. Kappy kills penalties and his speecd is always a threat. Matthews needs a guy to set him up, that's it. Nothing personal between the two, they just don't mesh. Why do you think Nylander and Hyman worked so good together. End of story, Next.

I also think it’s cause kapanen is a shoot first type player so if your putting him with a 40 goal scorer it’s not going to be as great.

My belief is that the story is blown out of proportion like most things by the media. It was more likely a story that Matthews wants to play with either Marner or Nylander instead.

Us guys don't always get along, however if we work together we have to remain professional. Airing these views publicly IS unprofessional, especially for pros. I will chalk it up to a lapse of judgment for a very young pro.
But from now on, keep that kind of crap in the locker room.

Lol do we need some fact checkers here or what? The Mathews and kappy issue was written in the Simmonds article and the only thing that was mentioned was that Matt’s asked the coach to switch his line by removing kappy and adding Nylander. Lol literally nothing about a feud so I guess you made that up? The reasoning is obvious kap likes to shoot and Mathews needs passers.

It doesn’t matter what the reason was. He went public with a negative comment directed at a linemate. At minimal he is questioning the coaches decisions.

I didn’t make anything up. I didn’t read the original article and statement, only the stories that resulted after. GrinningWolf makes the best points in his response. Check out what he has to say. I find it very difficult to disagree. Matthews should never go public with any statement of that nature. It fuels speculation and causes bad vibes.
