Leafs trade Matthews
Dallas trades Seguin, Heiskenan

Seguin is probably on the trade block if Dallas misses playoffs or are early exit. After what CEO said, I’d want out anyway if I was him. I like Seguin’s contract and he is signed long term. Heiskenan is looking real good his first year and showing every indication of living up to his potential.

Would Dallas bite? And if you were Leafs, would you do it?

Calm yourselves, Matthews is not going anywhere. Ludicrous proposals.

Nothing wrong with a “ludicrous proposal” TorontoBuds. Nothing was posted for almost a day, so this was just to get discussion going.

Seguin is not as injury prone as Matthews, and is easily capable of putting up the same numbers if he had the talent surrounding him Matthews does. And Heiskenan is the highest rated defense prospect in the world not named Dahlin. Looking like he is going to live up to the hype when drafted, his name and Norris already get mentioned in the same sentence regularly.

I doubt Dallas would make this trade just because Heiskenan is looking so good. They would probably want at least Dermott coming back in return, if not Sandin or Liljegren.

Leafs would be losing an injury prone star center on a somewhat lousy contract in exchange for a healthy, proven, equal caliber star player and a future franchise defenseman.

Seguin has a good contract, and Heiskenan on ELC. Leafs save a few bucks here too.

For the Jets trade, Matthews isn't a playoff performer, has a horrific contract and is injured more than Trouba. Plus, Matthews would be a 2C on the Jets. Also, you would need a pretty hefty add for the Jets to take Zaitsev as a cap dump.

@Leafs1994

I think I agree with your assessment of both Laine and Trouba. Trouba is also notoriously hard to negotiate with and will likely be a holdout this year himself.

Jets have an outstanding team themselves. At least as talented as the Leafs, if not better. If Laine was a better playmaker and not just a pure goal scorer, he would be a lot more attractive. And if Trouba wasn’t injury prone and greedy, he would be more desirable as well.

Memarcusjoe would likely disagree with much of what I’m saying here, but that’s ok. He’s a huge Jets fan, and I can’t blame him. If it wasn’t for Leafs, Jets would easily be my favorite team right now too.
