I don’t see either team making that trade.
Draisaitl at $8.5 carries a heavy price tag. And we don’t have anyone to take Reilly’s place just now. We could try running Gard’s and Dermott and figure out a plug for 3LHD, but I’m not convinced it would work. And after losing Gard’s next year (and probably Hainsey too), we have no one in the system.
Oilers would probobaly love Reilly on the team. Don’t think they would want to trade Draisaitl for him though.

Agreed LeafsGM. Adding Draisaitl would necessitate moving one if the core 4, and the defense would be even worse off than before.
Pass on this trade.

That's about all that makes sense. Oilers add more offence on back end and more defence on front end while Toronto does opposite. so in conclusion what's the point?

My proposal was simply an exercise in what a trade involving Reilly to Edmonton would look like.

It would have to be Toronto that says no. According to themostleaf33 and vbbb, Kapanen is worth McDavid and a small plus.

Matt, no one cares what Johnsson did a season in the past in a fluke year. This year he came back to earth and is now an overpaid 3rd/ 4th liner. The Leafs don't have their forwards play any kind of defense and in that atmosphere he only paced for 15 goals this season. On the other 30 teams that require their forwards to help out defensively, he'd be a 5-10 goal scorer. 3.4 mil a year for that is ridiculous anywhere outside of Toronto, so he has very little value. At least backup what you say with current facts instead of cherry picked junk.

The Jets may trade Lowry at next year's TDL, if they are out of the playoffs. But even at that time, they won't trade Lowry for two wingers they have no need of, especially when one is drastically overpaid for another 3 years. You'll probably have to pay someone picks to take Johnsson off your hands.

You are correct SBS, unfortunately the Jets didn't have a choice. Anyone who knows anything about the situation knows that.
It was never about money, Trouba only wanted to play in the USA and it appears New York was his number 1 choice.

Don't hold out too much hope for a Kadri/ Trouba deal. It is very unlikely.

Well we don't have to worry about Rielly getting the game winner. He did cost the Leafs a goal with his typical poor defense though.
