What would it take to get Pietrangelo?

Package is a 1st, a quality prospect and young roster player (Much like the McDonagh trade). Would this work?

2 trades simultaneous

To TOR: D - B. Chiarot + 2019 1st round pick

To WNG: D - J. Gardiner + F - P. Lindholm

then

To TOR: D - A. Pietrangelo + F - P. Maroon

To STL: F - C. Brown + D - N. Zaitsev + 2019 1st (WNG) + F - D. Timashov + 2019 4th (STL)

STL gets Brown and Timashov as young assets and Zaitsev who has a contract with term plus a 1st and 4th round picks

New Leafs D

Rielly Muzzin
Dermott Pietrangelo
Hainsey Ozhiganov
Chiarot

Maroon slots in where Brown was in the line up. The Leafs bring up Trevor Moore to backfil for Lindholm

For next season, cap out the door is $6.6MM. Cap in the door is $6.5MM

The easy answer is that he is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. But more seriously, I think the answer to the Pietrangelo question is simple: because Pietrangelo has the same term left on his contract as Muzzin, the time value is equal. So the difference is going to come from comparing their stats and the difference between them. Personally, it doesn’t look to me like Pietrangelo’s stats are significantly better than Muzzin’s, and they are both ranked top 50. So the premium for Pietrangelo over Muzzin probably isn’t a huge significance. Though I guess that’s subjective and depends on individual bias more than anything.

At any rate, Blues are looking good lately and have managed to claw their way back to playoff contention, so I don’t think we’ll be seeing Pietrangelo going anywhere any time soon.

Think the Blues tune has changed with the run they are on.

No chance on the Winnipeg trade. The Jets won't give up a roster player and their first for a #4 D.

Blues are in a playoff spot right now. Petro is not for sale. If he was it would take.

Kappy, sandin 1st. If zaits is involved more.

The fact that you think muzzin and petro are similar shows your hockey knowledge. Petro is top 10 Dman in league top 5 rhd. Muzzin isn't even top 30. So to sit here and say they have similar value is just your personal bias and bad judgement.

I like the idea, not sure if the leafs give up enough in the Winnipeg deal though, maybe add a 3rd or Stotts or something like that.

@redwing

Or it could be your bias thinking Petro is worth so much. Why don’t you put up some statistics to support your biews? Show me why Petro is worth so much. Show me a precedent. Right now you’re just stating your opinion as fact and have no support.

Right now NHL has Muzzin is ranked 22nd and Pietrangelo is ranked 38th. So even your ranking is out dated at best. A simple stat comparison would also support Muzzin currently as being the superior player.

I mean, it’s not just me telling you this either. So don’t pretend like I’m the only one saying your valuation fpr pietrangelo is too high.

Muzzin

29, 6’3”, 215lbs, 5g, 24pts, +13, 21:32 atoi, 101 blks, 121 hits, 69gv, 12tks, 51.0%cf, ranked 22nd

Pietrangelo

29, 6’3”, 210lbs, 6g, 21pts, -6, 23:48atoi, 91blks, 41hits, 33gvs, 24tks, 51.9cf%, ranked 38th

Very similar stats. Very comparable players. Looking at the stats and rankings seems to support the viewpoint that Pietrangelo is definitely not worth any significantly different than Muzzin.

Well well there @Leafs GM your really giving it to hotwing69 nice posts! I agree I believe parayko is a good talent but no Karlsson and the way that cat gets on you swear he’s talking about Scott Niedermyer or Lidstrom in their prime. Like I said Parayko would be a great edition but we need solid depth Dman. We have two 50pt + Dman we need someone to scare the competition away from Anderson I’m big on Gudas.

Petro is the better player. End of story.

Put your analytics away LeafsGM.

It's called the eye test.

Redwing1 is correct.

The bias over realism lies with you.

Only you would rate muzzin higher than petro. Let go to main boards and see.

I just checked with the main board on NHL talk. There is not one poster who thought muzzin was close to petro. They did however think muzzin was a better fit, only becuase of the price paid.

So please in the future try not to be a bias homer so much.
