There have been a lot of similar trades to this one but here we go...

TO CAR: Kapanen
To TOR: Pesce

To BUF: Zaitsev
To TOR: 3rd rounder

To STL: 4th Rounder (STL's that the TOR owns)
To TOR: Maroon

Seen a lot of Pesce + Ferland deals to the Leafs for Kapanen + Zaitsev but I do not think the Leafs have the additional pieces that Carolina would want to pull it off. Kapanen has been rumoured to CAR for a long time and could be the final push for a playoff spot.

Buffalo in need of right side defensive upgrades and have the cap space. I am sure the Leafs would hate to trade in the division but if Pesce is going to come in they have to dump that contract

Maroon is not playing well this year but perhaps a team change will spark a resurgence. May not be as good as Ferland but comes at a much cheaper price

Probably would work but I still think dubas pushes Carolina to take Johnsson rather then kapanen and it might work if Johnsson keeps playing the way he has been.

I don’t know how urgent Buffalo feels the need to strengthen their RHD. They already have Bogosian and Ristolainen. And while neither of those guys is known for a strong defensive game, neither is Zaitsev. I know Bogosian is hurt right now, but I don’t know the extent of the injury. So Buffalo might take on Zaitsev to give depth for playoff run, and deal with the roster consequences in the off season.

I don’t think Kappy is going anywhere, Dubas has said that we wants to keep both him and Johnsson for the playoffs and they both continue to fall on the trade bait board.

I’m perfectly fine with the other two trades.
