So in my proposal I am trading 2 upcoming players on expiring contracts Lyubushkin and Brodie plus adding an young NHL defenceman not a prospect to a rebuilding team with a ton of cap space.
So I await esponses of how Anaheim would never do this etc.
Ducks win in this proposal for who they are trading and getting, Toronto wins getting much needed cap space.

Thoughts ?

Brodie on his own should be worth more than Lyubushkin.

Massive overpayment by the Leafs.

I would rather offer Jarnkrok (money matching) and Leafs 3rd round pick for Lyubushkin.
Losing Brodie as Reilly’s partner would seriously damage Leafs defense.
Trading Liljegren just as he is coming into his own, after 5 years of developing him would be a terrible blunder reminiscent of Kyle Dubas.
I also feel that Timmins has the potential to be better than Lyubushkin.

Chicago has the cap and could use a veteran defenceman that can be traded at the deadline with salary retained, Brodie at 2.5 million if Chicago retains half of his salary and any team needing a defenceman at the deadline would probably be able to afford that, adding NRobertson is the sacrifice Toronto has to make to shed that salary.
Leafs can then add a defenceman like a Peeke or Lyubushkin to play with Rielly and be under the cap.

I don’t think it’s that Brodie has negative value it is simply his $5 million dollar contract and cap gymnastics.
If Leafs could swing another deal first to replace Brodie it would help Pridham get the Leafs under the cap.

I really don't think most players replace Brodie unless you're trading a big name.

Brodie is a better defenseman than Peeke.
The only benefit for the Leafs is the cap savings.

Brodie and Liljegren both play the right side of Leafs defense.
Hanifin is a LHD.
Removing two right side defenders for a LHD makes Leafs defense even more unbalanced than it already is with only Klingberg and Timmins left to patrol the right side.

You would need to add a better player than Brown for Colorado to accept the large downgrade from Barrie to Carrick.
