Marner to Florida for Huberdeau. Florida is just under the cap so they would have to move additional salary. Huberdeau is on such a good contract that leafs will have to take some salary. That comes in the way of Stralman.

Florida get a more offensive weapon. Leafs get a top line player with size and some grit and speed to go along side Matthews. Leafs can decide what to do with stralman. depth guy or waiver guy.

I agree that the trade for Barrie and kerfoot was a flop but I wanted to get others perspective on this thought. I believe some of the biggest mistakes this management has made has been ‘keeping their own rentals’. Letting go of Bozak, JVR, Gardiner for nothing in return was a big mistake. While some could say that it’s an easy conclusion after the fact, there is just too much parity in the league now to not get any assets or players in return. We lost 3 effective players for nothing, and still couldn’t get through the 1st round by keeping them. My point being, if the leafs have no plan to extend Anderson beyond next year (and I hope they don’t) you have to get some value for him and replace him for a 1B option. Target Edmonton for one of their stud defensemen (Bouchard, Bear or Nurse) . Maybe adding Johnson for Kassian would be a good option. So Anderson, Johnson for Dman +Kassian (maybe try to get a pick as well) . Effectively you get a 10-15 goal scorer and tough as nails for Johnson who at best has gotten 20 goals but can’t stay healthy long enough and brings little else beyond that. Plus Kassian is on $1.1M in cap hit so you make some additional space. Then you have to replace Anderson obviously.

First time poster here but it’s a great conversation. My only hesitation in putting Robertson with Matthews is that you no longer have any line mates that create space for Matthews and I see this line being easily shut down. He is a rookie, small and while he looks like he could have a good future, I just don’t think he would have added much to that line. Let’s face it, without a 3rd or 4th line that puts out little to no offense, and with Tavares and Nylander looking disengaged, I don’t really think you could have done anything different. We just needed the 2nd and 3rd line to do something.
