Leafs: 2nd round pick 2021
Sabres: Hall - Buffalo retains salary.

Leafs: Kerfoot, lillegren, and 2nd round 2023

Nashville: Ekholm

Sounds like hall is only going to cost a 2nd rounder - after the staal move.

What do people think ?

I do not want Hall.

Also, Buffalo stated the price at a first currently.

Your cap is way over buddy. Even if hall is retained at half.

Make Buffalo eat the salary as I said above?
Give them a 2nd and mid tier prospect then (someone not in our top 4)
Then ekholm and Kerfoot basically cancel each other out.
So now that works or am I missing something?
Hall is going to be fire sold at the market as no one eating the cap.

@Babcock. A team can only retain 50%, you can't retain the whole thing. Even at 50% you are way over the cap is what he is telling you.

You're still missing half of halls 8 million dollar contract.

So hall at 4 million cap hit just magically fits the leafs cap situation?

As of today leafs need 3.1 million accumulated cap to obtain Hall at full price (45X.069)
At deadline that number turns into 2 million (29X.069)

Any retaining% cuts that amount needing to cover the rest of his cap for season by that %

Leafs have 1.2 million of accumulated cap saved. So in theory if Buffalo takes 50% back leafs can technically get him on April 10th but no sooner with what’s been saved to this point.

Now Dubas has been manipulating the cap on days off by taxi squading eligible higher salary players for eligible lower salary players thus accumulating cap on off days by saving 700 plus grand on cap thus accumulating 60 grand on these days roughly. However by 5pm on game day that 700 grand turns into 29 grand thus accumulating 2 grand roughly for the next 24hrs. So if Dubas keeps this maneuvering up Hall might be afforded by April 1st but he’d be a fool to use all his available money he saved for last 90 days on 1 player.

Light schedule last 2 weeks and having no one on LTIR has really allowed Dubas to accumulate some deadline space.

Leafs have doubled their deadline cap availability in last 10 days due to above paragraph.

This is some good analysis.

If you dumb it down you are saying that we have about how much accumulated cap saved by trade deadline . best guess. and to be clear - we can apply this to any trade? So if we acquire person x and we retain z salary we can just subtract our accumulated cap from that to determine our true burden?

This part I don’t get - why do you think this

So if Dubas keeps this maneuvering up Hall might be afforded by April 1st but he’d be a fool to use all his available money he saved for last 90 days on 1 player.
