To tor: slavin

to car: kapanen, 2nd

I like this a lot as slavin proved to be arguably Carolinas best defense in the playoffs. the leafs are losing kapanen who is a good top six player but with all the wing depth in the ahl like bracco and Brooks, and maybe even free agency it won't hurt them too much. slavin is a very underrated defensemen and I think that my trade might be a bit too little for him.

Carolina isn’t trading Slavic, he is there best LHD. They will more likely trade Faulk or Pesce if they have to.

yeah that's probably true. if this were to ever happen it would probably be pesce or fleury.

There are maybe like 10 true #1 one defenceman in the league, but Slavin is in that tier below. With that cap hit he is one of the best contracts in the NHL, if he was in a bigger market he would be talked about non stop. He only gets traded if the owner gets a top end scorer in return.

Pesce is the defence the Leafs should target, fleury is a high pick but is overrated he struggled to get into Carolinas top 6.

I’m not sure Carolina would be willing to move Slavin, and probably not for what’s on offer here. He is Carolina’s best defenseman after all. I would love either of those two, Pesce or Slavin. If history is any indication (Hainsey, Hanifin), then Slavin would probably have a breakout season on the Leafs. It just seems like Carolina can draft great players, but can’t seem to get the most out of them. Even Hamilton took a bit of a step backward after going there.

Would love to have Slavin on the team, but I have a sneaky suspicion it would cost us Nylander. For Kapanen we are probably looking at Pesce. And anyway, Pesce is natural RHD, which may or may not make a difference depending on who you ask. And we need RHD not another LHD who can play the right side.
