K boys…. I’m seriously sick to my stomach listening to the Carlo rumours. Now, unfortunately I have to rehash this just so everyone relives this bad dream and is on the same page. Toronto and that idiot that sat on his hands every other time but thought in a span of 30 mins of this is what it’d take to pry him from Boston's hands. Toronto's first in 26’ top 5 protected thank freakin god fwd Fraser Minton and a forth rounder for Bos Carol with 40% retention or 50%. So, there’s that.

Now I hear Leafs should be moving Carlo and San Jose is the most likely destination? Said the compensation will likely be a 3rd rounder and a B lvl prospect??? Wtf!!! Like if if it’s San Jose don’t cha think maybe Chase that 20th OA pick??? He’s right handed big and cheap! I know he’s sucked and his injury history is pretty concerning but no?? Like, he plays a premium position and is heavily discounted as per us giving our 1st and Minton to acquire him. Am I wrong? Thoughts?

For me two things are clear in the Carlo scenario.

One is that we can’t live in the past! The Carlo was a bad, bad move and result. So trade him for the best return and live with adding something to the prospect pool. Send him to the Ducks for a R3 2026 and Maxim Masse who was a R3 in 2024.



Second reason is Carlo can be very easily replaced in the UFA market for less money. Andrew Peeke is available as a RD, or wrecking ball Jeremy Lauzon as a LD. The latter also fills Benoit’s checking skill by almost 100 hits!

Most fans weren't complaining about the Carlo trade when it happened. Sure, let's hand over a future 1st round pick and a prospect on a guy whose main attribute is being physical, but has had 3-4 concussions, and also has hands of concrete.

What could go wrong.

And as far as him playing better when he wasn't with Reilly, how many different D partners do we need to get Morgan before we admit he's the liability?

Ironically, because the pick was top 5 protected in the Carlo trade, the trade is now Minten and a 27 or 28 1st for Carlo ($600K retained and (likely) McKenna). A trade almost everyone would want the Leafs to do.

Like most deals, we have disagreement on the trade’s merits.
Personally, I didn’t like it when it happened and I still feel Carlo can attract something decent and be easily replaced in UFA market. To me that is asset management.

I might be way off but right now with Carlo entering his last year of contract before becoming a UFA. He might get us a 2nd or round pick in a straight up trade. As an add on in a trade package he might garner more. The other I might try for once Nurse is traded, is prying Ike Howard loose from Edmonton for Carlo. He replaces a left handed D at almost a 3rd of the cap if Nurse goes elsewhere.

It all depends what Edmonton gets back but their aim in trading him is to save cap space. Once Nurse is traded it will also serve as a rough barometer of what we might get for Reilly. Reilly could be a similar package because he also comes in at $2m less than Nurse.

Everyone that understood hockey thought it was a huge overpay for Carlo and it’s been proven in his play and injuries. If u can get rid of him and get a decent return back Chayka will pull the trigger. He’s slowly what I think is get rid of old regime mistakes and bring in his own vision.

Don’t be surprised Maccelli, Joshua Robertson, Rielly, even Tanev, if there are takers, gets traded if he’s willing to wave which he won’t, might, but he’s an injury away from being muzzined.

I agree. Tanev they say will be ready for camp but their aim in Muzzin scenario could very well happen. I just don’t see Tanev coming vac as the same type of shot blocker.
