I like the Idea, and I think it actually has a good shot at becoming a reality. I kind of like Bracco though, he is young, skilled, putting up points, so it would suck to lose him.
Dubas also wants guys with term and Carolina wants some extra scoring and depth at forward so it works in those areas as well.

You think Johnsson is enough for Pesce though mostleaf? Usually most proposals involving Pesce I’ve seen floated on here are centred around Kapanen+ for Pesce, or Pesce+ for Nylander. As much as I like both Johnsson and Bracco, and I do like them both very much, I have a hard time believing they would land us an outstanding young defenseman on a very good long term team friendly contract like Pesce.

Carolina is sitting on a gold mine in defensive talent. A reverse situation of the Leafs. Much has been made of this fact, and the many possibilities it creates. All these players in this proposal are outstanding young men. Very talented. Carolina may want a little more from Johnsson and Bracco before pulling the trigger on this one though. Pesce is top four defenseman, and realistically would be 1RHD on Leafs. He just holds more value than Johnsson and Bracco, who are solid depth guys with second line potential, but nothing more.

I like this deal. I think Carolina will still ask for a 1st just because. if that happens what would you do?

I would not involve Bracco, I think Carolina bites at Johnsson for Pesce. Pesce is good but he is 3rd line there, Johnsson can come in and provide speed and secondary scoring.

If Carolina wouldn’t accept this Johnsson trade as is, would you be willing to either a) add a 1st, or b) make it Kapanen straight up, in order to get your man?

I would add a 2nd gladly. If they wanted a first, I’d prefer to keep bracco and send a different prospect.

Personally, I have 0 interest in trading Kapanen. He will be the one that got away if we trade him. His speed is too much of an asset to give away.

Our 1st isn’t going to be very high. Not much better than a 2nd round pick for some teams. If Carolina insisted on the 1st thrown in on Johnsson + Bracco, it may not be unreasonable. I would rather do that than have to lose Kapanen, who is looking like he has been buried far too long, and now that he has his chance, he is taking full advantage and just impressing at all aspects of the game right now.
