Pesce and Slavin for Nylander and Gardiner.

Leafs can then sign the M and M brothers and not lose for Gardiner at the end of this season, while locking up 2 defensemen at descent salaries for the next five seasons.

Carolina gets Nylander at say 7.5 for 7 seasons and can sign Gardiner because they have lots of room in salary cap next year.

Maybe that is why Carolina scouts are all over Leaf games.

Why do you think Canes give up two of their top 4 dman and replace them with just Gardiner? Or is it "Giveaway" as someone on here likes to refer him as?

You aren't related to LeafsGM r u?

@rocket

Pesce wasn’t a top 4 defenseman, he was 3RHD, or I guess as you would say, #6.

Gardiner/ Hamilton
DeHaan/ Faulk
Fleury/ TVR
*Bean

That’s still a formidable lineup. You know yourself Gardiner is a very good, if not near-elite offensive defenseman. Plus the ‘Canes get Nylander.

Carolina’s extraordinary depth at defense is what makes this trade a possibility. Most teams wouldn’t be able to entertain a proposal like that.

I think this deal is a good start but more needs to be added but I don't know what more

Or who more

Just more.

As I said originally Top 4 D for Canes would be Hamilton, Gardiner, Faulk and De Haan. Still a great D. Then add the best player in Nylander. The Canes would be thrilled with that.

The Leafs get 2 good defensemen that are signed up at good salaries for the next 5 years. They are now shored up defensively. Also this allows them to sign the M and M boys, and also get something for Gardiner, rather than nothing at the end of this year.

Some people would claim I'm a Canes GM and not a Leaf GM. If Gardiner can be signed by Canes, this is an even deal, with both teams gaining significantly.
