Leafs trade Kapanen, 1st, pick/ prospect
Islanders trade Pulock

Pulock looked good last year. He and Liljegren would cement the right side defense for years.

Islanders will be looking to amass as many picks and prospects as they can. This gives them another 1st and a handful of prospects for their pipeline. Kapanen gives them a prospect player that could maybe play second line on Islanders.

Pulock is a good player. Islanders aren’t going to let him go cheap. We have to make a good enough offer and get Pulock now before he really breaks out next year and is too expensive to trade for.

Everyone on this site thinks way too highly of Kapanen just because he was drafted in the first round. He was drafted in 2014, and he’s only just now making the team, and it is on the third line. If Kapanen played on a different team and had the same results as to date, everyone on this site would be calling him a bust. 3RW are cheap and easy to find. I’m not knocking Kapanen. I think he’s a good player. But he is definitely not part of the core and is very tradeable.

I would say take out the 1st and add Bracco and someone like Carrick or Holl.

Islanders won’t make the trade if we don’t give them a pick so they can re-draft for Pulock’s position. We can give them another useful player like Leivo or Carrick sure. It wouldn’t break the deal if Islanders asked for a fringe player as a throw in.

But you said yourself kapanen was drafted in 2014 and just made the team same thing as pulock last year was his first full year I would be willing to give the islanders Sandin.

Ya I don't think adding Pulock is the way the leafs should go, if we are trading Kapanen and a first it should be for someone who is better, or a top RD like Pesce.

Sandin instead of Kapanen or Sandin instead of the 1st?

I was originally going to suggest Sandin and 1st. Pulock holds more value because he is RHD and already playing in the NHL.

I would trade Sandin sure.

Elaborate as to why the Islanders would want Kapanen? They have enough of those type players.

@Leafsadvocate

Eberle comes off the books this year. They will need someone to replace him.

Kapanen is a good player. Islanders would like to have on the team. We need RHD. Trading for someone like Pulock is a better idea than trading our top line winger like Nylander. It’s a low risk/ high reward opportunity. A 3RW or a prospect like Sandin, who won’t be making the team for a couple years at least, makes sense. If we pursue someone more established, we are going to have to put out more.

I would be very okay with trade. Trade from an area of depth to shore up an area of weakness makes the most sense, and the reality is that Brown is ahead of Kapanen right now anyways of terms of development, and is a safer pick to play with Kadri on the third line. Leivo would finally get to play too. I love Kapanen's potential as a player, but you got to pay to play.
