Your giving up a lot of future in this trade

Sparks is leafs backup next year

mcbackup is 35 and sparks is 24

Kapanan is deadly right now on penalty kill plus huge upside

This draft is very deep even leafs stay at 25 they will get a good future player

Your giving up way too much.

Don’t be so hard on MarquesMen here David. Pesce is a very good player. Big kid, plays over 20 minutes a night, plays a solid defensive game, blocks a lot of shots. Would like to see him hit more though. He has a decent +/ - on a poor Carolina team.

We have a surplus of goalies, so Sparks is expendable. Take out either Kapanen or the 1st, and I think this trade is very reasonable. I would prefer to keep Kapanen as he is already a roster player and the 1st is never a guarantee to work out. Sparks and 1st for Pesce is a good deal for both teams.

Pesce is 23, locked up for another 6 years at 4M. That's huge. I wouldn't consider him a top pairing guy right not but he's got a lot of time to grow. By the time he's 26, he's going to be a legit right handed defencemen still playing at 4M a year. That's contract is already good but it's just going to get better with time. The leafs signed Big Mac for a reason, he played well last year so there's no reason to move him. Sparks has the most value right now and I don't think he'll ever be our number 1 goalie (in my opinion) . I don't think Sparks and a first is enough for Pesce, that's why I threw in Kapanen. Look what we traded for Andersen, goalie's don't have crazy value. Brown moves into our third line checking role behind Willy and Marner. Kapanen is a great player but there's no reason to worry about losing him, we don't really have space for him. He's at the top of the trading block in my books, just because his position is covered for years to come.

Kapanen was a high draft pick and is working out very well on the Leafs. He’s easily going to be a top six forward. Mackin is correct in saying the package you are offering here is a lot for a second line defender.

Carolina is stacked on defense and will be more than willing to move Peace, as he is likely to fa down their
depth chart. I would hate to give up Kapanen (drafted 1st round) and another 1st for him. I would either offer them a prospect off the Marlies instead of Kapanen, or a reduced pick (2nd) instead of the 1st if they insisted on a roster player.

Id suggest revamping to first 2nd picard brown and make them take martins contract for us for pesce
I think sparks is way to valuable I think a lot of people under value him on this site saying he got his shot. He got to play on the worst team in the NHL when he had his shot, by that sense picard doesn't deserve another chance either because colorado didn't play well with him. Sparks also had that team suspension for threatening that guy who was bullying a mentally challenged kid. Which set his career back a bit. I think sparks will be a stud. I enjoy watching him play more then Andersen to be honest. As a goalie Andersen frusturates me because he plays very lazy and makes lots of dumb mistakes. I think I may be the only Andersen hater on this site. He may make some big saves but he never comes to training camp prepared and is a choke artist in the playoffs. Very slow getting back to his posts and flops to easily on his power slides to say just a few.

A 1st and Kapanen (who was a 1st) for Pesce who is a 2nd pairing defencemen seems like a huge overpayment then throwing in Sparks adds salt to the wound.
