Leafs Off-season

1. Sign Carlson. He's a top line RHD, fills a big need, and will come cheaper than the elite guys who will be available next year. 6 year, 8.5 AAV.

2. Resign Tyler Bozak. His down year points wise should make him fairly cheap. 4 years, 4.5 AAV.

3. Trade Connor Carrick to Edmonton for Jujhar Khaira. I like Khaira, he's a big, youn, gritty C/LW with tons of room for growth.

4. Draft a centre in the first round, McLeod or Olofsson should be available when the Leafs pick and both project as solid 2-way centres. I particularly like McLeod.

I think the Leafs should go for a big center too. It doesn’t look like the center position has a lot of high caliber players thisnyears draft. Defensemen seem to be the hot commodity this year. 6/ 10 of projected top ten are defensemen, while center doesn’t even make top ten (Veleno is projected to go 11th) . So there should still be plenty of centerman left for leafs to choose when it’s their turn.

The Carrick trade is interesting. Edmonton might be looking to unload salary, so maybe we can make him part of larger paxckage for one of their defensemen.

Too much for Bozak who's is a 3rd line C.

I feel like 4.5 is still under market value, and retaining Bozak at a discount is probably the cheapest way to fill the 3C spot, not to mention the value that familiarity brings. Plus replacing JVR with Marleau and moving up Kapanen would give Bozak two speedy wingers who can score and play sound defensively. Marleau is somewhat wasted on the Kadri line, as Marner and Kadri play pitch and catch constantly.

Tavares, Stastny and Thornton will all cost much more, and I'm not sure their added value would be worth the cap squeeze. Maybe lower the term to three years, but I don't see Bozie resigning for less than he makes now. And after Matthews and Kadri, the organizational depth at C is scary bad.

You nailed it. Depth at C is pretty shallow. Currently I have Aaltonen slotted 4C, and Bozak 3C. Of course Bozak might not re-sign, and Aaltonen has never played nhl game before. So it’s very possible neither of them are on team start of next year. The Goat might be able to share 4C position with Aaltonen. After that, we have nobody who is capable of stepping in to what may be 3C and 4C position. We would have to trade for them, and thAt could cost valuable assets

We drafted heavily on defense the last two years, I expect Leafs will want to change that this year. They should be drafting big bodied able centerman,
