Leafs trade should trade during the draft

Partrick Marleau

For anything not retained

Martin is 1.5 million overpaid
Marleau is 3 million overpaid

Bozak
Plakanec
Komarov

Don't matter because their contacts are ending

I would have included

Zaitsev

Who is slightly overpaid

But the leafs need the right hand Defense

If they do the marleau, Martin trade they will have cleared almost 9 million in cap space

They should trade to a team who has lots of cap space so cap does not matter to them because it's only 2 years

Not sure the logic on trading Marleau away, the Leafs will not be in any Cap trouble and he plays well with Marner and Kadri. The top two lines are clicking very well (when Matthews is back)

Marleau was brought in to mentor the young kids he is doing fantastic he plays both ends of the ice and he can skate with them and 20 goals I am happy with a 38 year old making 6 million for two more years is fine.

Wow, there’s a lot wrong here, so I’ll just cherry pick a few.

Marleau is not $3 mln overpaid.

There is no need to trade him. He also has a NMC.

It also sends a really bad message around the league and makes it harder to sign UFA’s.

All around, bad idea.

Marleau will be a Leaf guaranteed the whole of next year. The final year of his contract is a little harder to say. If I had a guess, I would say he is going to be traded back to San Jose so he can retire as a Shark. Which would be the right thing to do.

Marleau isn't going anywhere in the first two years of his contract. Year three who knows but why is everyone harping on trading an iron man and consistent scorer like him?
