Have you ever heard of salary cap? Leafs wouldn't be able to sign "the big 3" if that happened. And I'm not giving up Liljegren. I think focus more on RHD.

I like your thinking, and the way you present your argument for Carlson is not very different than the one I use to convince myself that the money is available to pursue a big name free agent defenseman.

My preference, and from what I’m reading in the rumors sites, is that Leafs are going to stand firm this year with what they have, and maybe only acquire a 4C this deadline. I like Carlson, but the chance to sign a Norris Trophy winning defenseman doesn’t come around very often, and next year, Leafs will have the chance at signing two of them. I would rather have either Doughty or Karlsson on the team.

Hey Davidmackin, Conor Brown is not a fourth line player. McDavid would push the Oilers GM to trade for Brown as Brown is a top 6 forward.
