A couple days ago, I'm sure you all seen that Eklund was mentioning about Pacioretty going to Toronto and personally, I think it's complete bull. But for the hell of it, I'm going to make a couple trades that would fill our little Stanley cup window before Matthews and Marner get paid. Again, I don't think Montreal and Toronto would ever make big trades with eachother but this is simply for entertainment.

Montreal has been said that they want a top 4 LHD.

TOR: Gardiner, Neilsen, 2nd round pick
MON: Pacioretty

One thing to note is that both these players have the same term left on their contracts and just about the same cap hit. By bringing in Pacioretty, that'll leave JVR expendable which brings me to my next trade.

TOR: JVR
SJS: 1st round pick, Josh Norris

San Jose is in the market for a top 6 forward and they feel like they are contenders. By bringing in JVR, they can a good top 6 LW who can score goals and they're not getting rid of any roster players.

Now to fill in the hole for Gardiner. Most people will say Dermott can fill in that hole but you want a deep defence core when making a serious playoff run.

TOR: San Jose 1st and 2nd, Kapanen
ARZ: Hjalmarsson

Hjalmarsson is a very reliable defencemen who will bring a good veteran presence and he's also got rings. He's also got this year plus next year left on his contract. Both him and Pacioretty fit in perfectly for our window.

Well thought out and makes some form of sense. Ignoring your “what if” trade with the Habs, your SAN Jose deal is realistic and, although I’d hate to part Kappy, that may close to what it takes for a solid top 4 D-man as well. Nice work man.

Interesting trade senerios as it does allow a young asset in Leivo to get into the line up full-time even though I would hate to see Kapanen depart. Even the package for Pacioretty would be fair for boht organizations. I'd be amazed if Lou pulled that one off.
