Nylander, 2nd Rd pick 2017

Montour, 1st Rd pick 2017

Tough to give up Nylander, but the Leafs need for a top 4 RHD becomes priority. This is more of a 'hockey trade' that would fit into Ducks plans (ELC for ELC). JVR would not have enough value for Ducks, IMO.

Montour has all the tools to become a top 4 RHD and young enough to grow with this core group for many years.

Upgrading the 2nd to a 1st allows the Leafs to draft another high end D-prospect for the future.

Leafs then add 1 more D-man in free agency and their top 6 suddenly becomes legit.

Not really liking it. Rather go with;

Leafs: Neilson, 2nd
Jets: Laine

Neilson is young and has all the tools to be a top 4 LHD for the Jets.
Laine would be a nice fit beside Mathews.
Then trade JVR, Polak, Hunwick and Smith to stock up on picks and prospects for post season, pre expansion draft trades with teams in danger of losing top D's.

Please explain to me why Jets will trade their franchise player? Would you trade Matthews for that? The only way Laine gets traded if it's for Matthews! Compare a potencial top 4 Neilson to a potencial next OVEKCKIN! Leafs would rob jets with this trade and let them burn to dust? Seriously this would be the worst trade in HISTORY I am actually so pissed that you offered this garbage.

Thanks Shannaplan. Glad someone here can recognize that. My trades are probably biased (I'm a Leafs fan), sometimes off base and occasionally stupid, but never that ridiculous. I try to get as much information about the players, team needs and wants and try to make a logical suggestion. That being said can everyone here quit trading for Stoner unless the Leafs get a huge return. Its like them trading Lupul or Robidais and expecting a top pick or prospect in return.

The only reason Montour is not in the NHL full time is because of how deep the Ducks are on D. He has all the tools to be a Top 4 D, ask any Ducks fan and he is regarded as one of their top prospects (if not the # 1). It will take a lot to pry him away, and as I much I like what Nylander offers. they have plenty of depth of small very skilled forwards (Marner, Brown, Kapanen, Bracco, etc. ) .

Montour would quickly become their best D prospect, likely crack a top 6 spot on this team right away, and the Leafs upgrade a 2nd Rd pick to another 1st and draft another high end D prospect.

Win-win.
