Leading up to free agency.

Leafs - 2017 3rd

Blues - exclusive rights to talk with Shattenkirk about signing.

Hey, it's worth a shot if we'd get an edge on everyone before free agency. This years draft is soft and we'll accumulate more picks before seasons end anyways.

It's possible but I don't see him signing with us , I see him signing with a team like Boston

I like that, but just remember that Arizona gave way less for a guy like Goligoski. I think Shattenkirk is way better than Goligoski, but a 3rd may be a bit much

That's true Shannaplan, I didn't think about Goligoski. I actually had the Vesey trade in my head. Though they aren't very comparable with Vesey having been a forward prospect. I just see Shattenkirk being far my valuable than Vesey. However, that trade didn't end well for Buffalo.

Shattenkirk is going to demand 7 tears at $49 million; don't think the Leafs will bite on that.

Shattenkirk wants to play on the eastern seaboard (Boston, NY, etc.). I think he will get the best deal in NY, but he should shoot for Washington, and maybe he's enough to get them over the top.

The Leafs need someone younger.

Younger than 27? You say some stupid things sometimes lab. Shattenkirk is not Drew Doughty and will not get Doughty money. He will be signed closer to 6/yr. You honestly believe that Lou wouldn't want to add a player like Shattenkirk without having to give up anything in return?

@ Rmckeen

Most of the trades on this site are not for 27 or higher, they are for younger Dmen

Not sure I an following the logic here. Shattenkirk's age is ok, but JVR who is 3 month's younger is too old for the rebuild? Anyway. Pretty sure he is not going to sign with Leafs if he goes FA unless they make him a ridiculous offer(which I wouldn't). Let NY, Bruins and Caps battle it out in a bidding war and the winner gets to figure out who they are going to dump to afford his contract. I would rather target a trade for (Dumba, Brodin, Hamonic, Manson) younger , cheaper #4 RHD and prospects that may develop in 3 or 4 years into the stud we are looking for.

Your comment is stupid. I only said the Dmen should be younger and that Shatty is going somewhere else. Shattenkirk will be 28 when he signs for 7 years or even 6. That will be a stupid contract; same as the ones we are all bitching about.

The Leafs won't be ready, even at that point. Dumb idea to sign old Dmen at this stage. Especially when there are better and cheaper Dmen to trade for. There will be FA Dmen, good ones every year for the next century. FOWLER is FA next year. I'd take him over Shatty even if I had to play him on the RHS.

Signing him isn't sticking to the Shanaplan. You're trying to re-tool and not rebuild which has been the mistake of the last 50 years.

We don't even know right now who half of the team will be in two years.
