There has obviously been a LOT of talk about the potential to pick up alex pietrangelo through Free agency. To go along with this, there has also been talk about trading for Aaron Ekblad from Florida.

We know that we need to address our blueline with significant additions on the right side.

How do we all feel about a trade involving Morgan Reilly for Aaron Ekblad.
Not 1 for 1, but that would be the foundation.

Here is my proposal:

Aaron Ekblad + + for Morgan Reilly + +


Leafs sign alex pietrangelo to a front loaded contract.

To make room for these two contracts, Leafs move out Andreas Johnsson.

May also need to move out a few of their depth left D for some additional forward depth.

I know there is a load of love for Reilly, I myself have a Reilly Jersey, but this trade and signing provides long term stability on the back end.

You will have about $16M tied up in your top 2 D's. Doesn't leave a lot of room left when you have another $40M tied up in 4 forwards. So $56M on 6 players and $25M left for the other 17 including a number 1 goalie.

One or the other. Would prefer ekblad if the price is right and doesn't cost Morgan but can't do both. Although, that's Dubas dream right? Lol. Top 2D and top 6 forwards take all the money screw the depth.

One thought I have is Rielly has grown up (as a professional) and played in Toronto, both Pietrangelo and Ekbald have played in far less intense markets.

I prefer Rielly over the other two because I know exactly what to expect.

I would prefer Pietrangelo over Ekblad not by much but perhaps his presence will help Sandin, Lilly, Dermott and any of the youngsters develop.
