Thoughts on dubas looking at shattenkirk now that the rangers bought him out? Have him fill in for dermott until he is back. Maybe on a million one year??

Still think ristolinion would be a good pick up he is not that horrible at defending as some may think and it's his offence that would be the reason we would want him, dubas and company Cleary believe possession is more important as the philosophy is the other team can't score if they don't have the puck, NHL is turning into the KHL were the defence is more mobile and it's all stick checking as much as I disagree that is what this regime is building.

Tor
Lilygren

Buff
Ristolinion

One and done , atleast we know what he is lily might not ever pan out, as for clearing cap somebody will take ceci for a pick

I heard awhile ago that Tampa was interested in Ceci not sure if that's still true or not. I'm really against trading sandin or Lili in a lot of deals. Both very close to ready and could be be top D. That said, I don't hate Ristolainen. He has the potential and was maybe just overwhelmed at what Buffalo put him through. More the issue with this trade is; if you make that deal it's saying he will be a top 4 on the leafs for 3 more years. If he doesn't improve then that's a contract no one will want at 5.4m eventually. Capped out leafs will have a hard time with this unless Ceci and and risto are just part of a bigger deal. Still almost 1m difference.

Shattenkirk would be great for 1m lol especially to replace Ceci. If somehow Ceci went bye byes for a pick and shattenkirk took his spot for 3.5m less on a one year deal I would say do it right now. Otherwise I don't see the leafs signing anyone unless they dump some salary some where else.

Who would actually want ceci. Where did you hear tampa wants him. I would like to read that article. I think ceci will perform better with a more stable guy in reilly. I think the main reason he was aquried was that he is ufa after this year with 4.5 million falling off the books and hopes that liljgren will be ready.

Maybe a trade deadline deal. If Ristolainen does not get the top end mins (or as much as before) he could come cheaper. The Leafs would also be able to assess Ceci and flip him if he is not working out.

Before the leafs got Ceci can't remember where I saw it. Was just that Tampa was looking at a short term RD before the leafs aquired him. I assume though they wanted him a lot cheaper than 4.5m. agreed that Risto and Ceci probably both look better with a better partner.

seriously you guys are just the best. Let me make a couple points and burst the new crazy bubble that was just created.

1) shatty is a defensive liability. do you really want a defensive liability paired with rielly. No cause then reilly has to play a more defensive roll and that takes away from his game.

2) ceci is a way better actual defender. Ceci doesn't have to score points he is needed to stabilize reilly and cover for him.

3) you guys don't even have the cap to pay marner. you really want to take on 1 million more? most rsoters are set and a 4.5 million ceci is not going to be easy to move with our salary coming back.

4) Shattenkirk just had 2 injury riddled years and couldn't cut it in NYR yes he is a great pp specialist. but if I am correct you guys don't suffer in that aspect of the game its your actual defense that is lacking.

Completely wrong you have no evidence to suggest ceci is better then shattenkirk, none what so ever and you won't find it because it doesn't exist! Ceci had the worst corsi in the NHL last year, dead last bud, shattenkirk on a bummed knee is superior to ceci! Furthermore all it takes is a good defense coach which I believe we have now and a good system to buy into and guess what defenders will defend, islanders fir example, team defence wins cups look at the blues, people act like it was all peitangelo and parayko when really what I saw was decent puck moving from the back end and lots of back checking and determination from the forwards. The blues got hemmed in lots, it was the position of the forwards and the close support that made the defences job easier, then when they regained possession it was the defences ability to move the puck up effectively.

No to signing Shattenkirk. And no to trading Liljegren for Risto. Aside from the fact that we can’t afford to make that deal, Ristolainen is just not a very good player defensively. His CF% is terrible. And his +/ - is eye watering. I’d rather stick with Liljegren.
