Love me some Tkachuk but the only player I would try to deal Marner for would be Drew Doughty. Only because then we solve our top rhd man plus like Mitch he can run plays from that side of the ice and all other sides as well.

I don't think the Flames would want Nylander, with Johnsson either and probably because they might feel that Tkachuk is a great asset to keep and work around.

We do need a player like him though so most likely we go for a poor mans one.

And to be honest, I would still like a Kassian on our 4th line just to disrupt things against the opposition when called for, and it seemed like Hitchcock showed us he was trainable.

Hate to throw cold water on this proposal, which I actually like, but I just donâ€™t see it. As much as I like Tkachuk, Marner is way, way better, and Dube doesnâ€™t make up the difference.

Tkachuk is somewhere in between Marner and Nylander. Marner > Tkachuk > Nylander. Dube has potential, but itâ€™s a gamble.

ThatGuy is bang on. As much as we need a guy like Tkachuk, we arenâ€™t going to deal Marner for him.

Marner and Tkachuk are going to be the future captains of their teams? Thatâ€™s a bold statement. I love it. I donâ€™t know about Calgary, but I kinda feel like Marner as Captain is a bit of a stretch. Rielly, Matthews, and Tavares are most peopleâ€™s top three, including my own. What makes you think Marner has the leadership skills to run an entire dressing room of stars? And I mean superstars?

I donâ€™t know if I would be willing to trade Marner for doughty anymore. A year ago, it was a no-brainer. But then Leafs got Tavares. And then Marner got over 90 points. And then Doughty signed for $11M. And then Doughty had a pretty bad season.

I love Doughty. If he was a woman, Iâ€™d make him pregnant. But I think the affair is over. Marner is better at what he does.

I've really been scratching my mind over the marner tkachuk deal. I'm 100% for it but I think California might have to add an extra pick.

I like it because of the cap savings, tkachuk would probably cost 3m less per season (more on a proper 3yr bridge deal like kucherov got)

This frees up the money needed to keep kappy and Johnson. Give a good raise to dermott and potentially have cap space to sign tyler myers. Here are my thoughts on line combos

Thachuk Matthews kapanen
Hyman Tavares nylander
Johnsson kadri moore
Marleau gauthier brown

Reilly myers
Muzzin zaitsev
Dermott liljigren

Still a mix of skill and work horses. We could still free up some room my moving brown to edmonton.

@ Leafs GM. Marner captain. reasons (I have no inside info) he has been a leader at every level, he appears to be inclusive with all on the team, work ethic both on an off the ice, upbeat personality and his wellness to lead on the ice.
Note: listened to a very good podcast. They talk about many things concerning the leafs overall. Dubas/ Babcock relationship, player development, leafs development system, leaf prospects, Babcock/ Keith. Who maybe coaches next year. etc
