Leafs trade 1st (2020), Timashov, 2nd
Av’s trade Barrie

Obviously it’s based on the Muzzin trade. while I don’t like the thought of losing next years 1st already, Barrie does have the extra year on his contract. I think his style of play really suits Leafs rather well. We can still get a cheap heavy hitter for depth. Those guys are a dime a dozen. Barrie is RHD version of Gardiner and would give us four top 50 defensemen. It would be one of the best in the league behind maybe only SJ, Calgary, and Nashville.

I feel like Dubas is going to keep the 2020 1st until he knows for sure that the leafs won't need it. Due to the cap crunch, he may have to trade some players that would make the leafs worse, so the 1st may be something he holds onto in case things don't go according to plan.

@mostleaf

I agree with you. I don’t think Leafs should be dipping in to next year’s picks yet either. We should be holding that until next year when we know what our needs then will be.
Maybe instead of the 1st we could give a combination of players/ prospects? What do you think MostLeaf?

@leafs1994

I didn’t want to trade Gardiner for Barrie because I was wanting to keep him for this year’s playoff run. Trading Gardiner for Barrie doesn’t really improve us significantly enough to make the trade worthwhile. A package of picks let's us keep our top 50 defenseman, who is very valuable and good to have as insurance against injury to Rielly.

Fair enough but how do you afford this trade honestly I can’t see the leafs getting that top 4 d because we have to ship out a contract worth atleast 3 mil which not many guys have that low of a cap hit.

I think we can squeeze by this year. Then in the off season we can dispose of salary. Brown should be an easy $2M to free up. I’m sure it can be done if Toronto wants to make it happen.

If Dubas offers/ trades next year's first for Barrie he should be fired.

If he offers next years first over next few days then it should only be for top three names available. Stone, Duchene or Panarin. I'm not interested in Duchene or Panarin. Too flash and dash. Have enough of those guys. Stone I would take on my team anyday. Don't hold your breath OTT TOR hook up on any deal. Which means next years 1st is off the table. Maybe in summer but not today.

You talk bout how Barrie is right handed version of Gardiner who I believe you are not a big fan. So why acquire Barrie?
