Dubas has made some critical mistakes his assessment of talent between the pipes particularly will sink the Leafs. It started with McIlheney a poor decision to let him go to promote Sparks, was a brutal mistake. Then hanging the playoff losses on Freddie & letting him walk, Mzarek did nothing to merit the contract Dubas signed him too. It was painfully obvious a healthy Andersen would regain his form, Campbell was a gamble & still is. The Leafs unfortunately will lose in the first round because if goaltending & Keefe, not a particularly good coach the defeat to Montreal last year is proof. Dubas, Keefe & Shannahan will be gone & new management should immediately rebuild, pathetic that Dubas gave the big coin to Matthews on a 5 year deal that was asinine to do so.

Suggestions to new management.

Get Tavares to wave NMC & trade, will likely hafe to retain 25 % of his salary. If he refuses tell him he will be put on a loan to a club in the KHL.

Trade Matthews & Marner as a package to Arizona, that has a slew of draft picks & prospects that would work. Maybe five 1st rd ( Arizona has three 1st rd picks in 2022 ) & five 2nd rd picks & a prospect or two ?

Trade Nylander

Trade Kerfoot & Bunting

Trade Muzzin, Brodie & Reilly for picks & prospects.

Let Campbell, Giordano, Lybushkin, Spezza & Mikheyev walk.

Leafs would have a rubbish ton of picks plausable to pkg picks to move up in the draft, especially if they were sitting with 5, 6 or 7 1st rd picks in 2022.

Name Mzarek & Kallgren as an equal tandem for the 2022 / 2023 season, play all the kids currently in the system or newly drafted in 2022.

Keep Kampf & make him your # 1 Centre, have Simmonds on his line with a prospect.

Have Sandin & Liljegren as your top pairing.

Bring in Chara on a 1 year deal to play with Holl on the second pairing, maybe try to bring back Dermott & Marincin as your third pairing.

Then draft Bedard or Michkov in 2023.

Wouldn’t a first line of Kampf (a 4th line center), Simmons (an AHL caliber player) and a prospect on an ELC as their 1st line be a sight to behold.
They would likely eclipse Washington’s record for loses in a season, especially with Mrazek and Kallgren in net.
Leafs would definitely have the best odds for a shot at Connor Bedard, 1st overall next year!

So goal going into 2022 draft strategy is combine 1st rd and 2nd rd picks, to garner a pick in the top 5 Savoie and then another pick in top 10 Lambert.
Draft Bedard or Michkov in 2023 and add Knies also at that point to the lineup.

Nucleus going into 2023 / 2024

Bedard, Knies, Savoie, Lambert and prospects in their first or second seasons.

Or in 2024 / 2025

Michkov, Knies, Savoie, Lambert and whatever players that have flourished over the last 1 to 2 seasons.

Based on AZ pkg of three 1st rd picks in 2022, a 1st rd pick in 2023 and a 1st rd pick in 2024. So the fivr 1st rd picks from Arizona, Leafs would have two 1st rd pick in 2023 ( 1 from AZ ) and two in 2024 ( 1 from AZ ) to also add to the roster. With Matthews and Marner on the roster in 2022 / 2023 on Arizona, would they be better than 20th in the league, and the year following top 15? So decent picks the Leafs would acquire in the pkg. for Marner and Matthews.

So four more 1st rd picks added to the Leafs roster by 2024 / 2025, which with good drafting of defenseman and or Goalies, and complimentary UFA signings Leafs would be a playoff team.
