Not that I think Rielly is moving this off-season, but of course that will depend on how the playoffs go. If he does, the Leafs will want someone back that has a bit more term and no more than what Rielly costs now I would think.

NJ
Rielly 5

Toronto
Severson 4.16
Bastian RFA
2021 2nd NYI

NJ gets a true 1st pair LD that has a contract end the same time as Subban's. They don't really take on anymore cap and will have the space to re-sign him when his contract comes due.

Leafs get a top 4 RD that should put up better numbers in T.O. than NJ and is signed for one extra year and less than Rielly. Bastian gives the Leafs a Big mid 6 forward option and they pick up a 2nd to help replace some of the picks they moved.
I would also expect Kerfoot to be moved in the same kind of manner that Johnsson was. NYR or Chi could be destinations for Kerfoot.

I just don't see how Reilly has this much value unless he agrees to sign where he's going. I love MO but this year has been bad for him. Last season was a minor disappointment. It just isn't looking great for his trade value.

When was last time leafs management traded a player with 1 season left before ufa.

Barrie
Ceci
Hainsey
Gardiner
Bozak
JVR
Mcihinney
Komarov
Parenteau

Outside the polak and Winniks of this organization James riemer was the last upcoming ufa dealt and that was at the deadline that year.

They paid Carolina to take marleau in his final contracted year.

So if the past is any indication of the future I’d have to think rielly stays put.

The deal itself is great and if Dubas does decide to deal him hopefully it’s for a package much like this.

@LL. You may be right. I originally had it at just Severson and Bastian. I added the 2nd because I am starting to think that the whole isolation/ c.v. situation may be affecting Rielly and some others which is showing in the ice. Taking into account that Rielly should be ranked higher than Severson, Bastian is still unproven at the NHL level, I added the 2nd feeling Rielly will come back to form when things in regular life are more normal. That said, I wouldn't be unhappy with Severson and Bastian. I think Brodie and Severson would be a pretty solid pair.

@RLF good points. Some guys around the league seem to handle it worse than others.

He may hit his stride again but he's losing value daily right now.
