I only know what's the team Jamie olesiak is on but I believe it's Dallas. So our defence needs to get better and we mightn't need some more depth
So

Leafs
2020 2nd
Ceci
2021 3rd

Stars
Olesiak

Leafs
Lillegreen
Kapanen
2021 1st
Robertson

Sens
Hainsey (retain 30%)
Brown same with brown
2020 7th

Right now Riley looks lost, like he's lost a step and I believe the reason is he's worried too much about defending rather then contributing offensively. Hainsey is very solid defensively and even though he might of held Riley down a bit offensively, Riley still got more points last year. In the other trade we get a very physical defensmen which is what we need.
Lines
Johnson Matthews Nylander
Hyman Tavares Marner
Moore Kerfoot Brown
Mikheyev Spezza Gauthier

Riley Hainsey
Muzzin Barrie
Dermott Olesiak.

I do believe that Hainsey and olesiak make a much better duo then our previous two which was holl and Ceci.

Thoughts?

Uh. Your saying Brown and Hainsey are worth a top winger, 2 prospects and a 1st? If that was the case why were they allowed to walk.

Id got to think this is a huge overpayment for hainsey and brown. i like the idea just not the deal itself.

Oleksiak was traded for a 3rd both times. He has lost considerable time value since. So the 2nd is our payment to Dallas for taking Ceci off our hands? Because otherwise it is a massive overpayment for a bottom pair defender.

The Hainsey and Brown trade is so far off it isn’t even in the same book, let lone the same page. As much as I like Hainsey and would have loved to see him back this year to play with Reilly again, we can’t make this trade. I was a big Connor Brown fan too, but same thing applies. Unless you mean Logan Brown, then this trade has a different flavour. But since you mentioned retention, I assume you mean Connor Brown.

Signing Ceci and not RW-signing Hainsey was an extremely costly move by Dubas imo. The chemistry Reilly and Hainsey had together was what made Reilly so great the last couple years. Bringing in a guy like Ceci, who was performing terribly, and paying him double what Hainsey was making, and not having an alternative or backup in case Reilly/ Ceci didn’t work out was very narrow minded and short sighted of Dubas and one of his worst mistakes to date.

I think Dubas gets one more year after this. The lost season this year can be attributed to Babcock and, to a lesser extent, injuries to key players (Marner, Tavares) . If Dubas doesn’t address the two main issues of backup goalies and 1RHD over the off season properly again and we start the season poorly he no longer has any excuses. He’s got the players he wants, the coach he wants, his entire Soo operation is up and running now at nhl level. Time to show that these guys are actually nhl level and not just AHL/ OHL level.

I know my deal was an overpayment but I put down that the send retain salary on both players so we would have to give up a bit more. Now it may still be a bit too much but it’s going to have to be an overpayment bu US.

I really liked both Hainsey and Brown. Of the two, I would be more open to Hainsey returning because we never did fill his position satisfactorily. All the conditions that led to Brown’s departure are still in play: we are stacked at RW and we don’t really have the cash to bring him back. Even trading Kapanen doesn’t alleviate the position at RW because we still have Marner and the balding Swedish holdout taking the top two spots, Mikheyyev would be 3RW, and Bracco 4RW. I really think Bracco deserves a shot. He’s a little undersized, which is probably what is holding him back more than anything. But his speed and skill make up for it. We also have Moore, Engvall, and Timashov who can play wing, though I’m not sure if they can play RW. Heck, we can even put Hyman back on RW and just fill in the left side with all natural lefties. The problem with that though is that would mean breaking up the Hyman/ Tavares/ Marner line, which has easily been our best line last year and this. So many options means that brown’s fate was and is sealed. There is no way Dubas will want him on 4th line make over $2M, and while I believe he can play 3RW, and play well there, we have too many other options available. I did like having Brown on the team though. Great player. I’m glad to see him doing so well in Ottawa where he is finally getting his chance. After his first season when he scored 20 goals we all knew what he was capable of.

The thing I like most about Oleksiak is that he is a Toronto boy. Glad to see him doing so well for himself playing in the nhl, and playing well. I know he will never be a top pairing defender in “today’s” nhl. But he is perfect for bottom pair shut down role. Along with Polak, Dallas’ third line defense is exactly what I would like for the Leafs. If Oleksiak was even just a little more talented he could be as good as Parayko.
