I do NOT want Erik Karlsson at all and we especially cannot have Reilly, Karlsson, and Raddysh on the same blue line lol but I’m just gonna pretend like we’re getting Karlsson and trading Reilly.
Morgan Reilly (15%)
To: SJS
Luca Cagnoni
3rd
I don’t think Reilly's value is as low as people think. He’s still a beat in the playoffs consistently every year, and the Sharks could benefit by having one of the funniest veteran D cores of Orlov, Nurse, Reilly, Trouba.
Then:
2027 1st (COL)
Noah Chadwick
2028 2nd
Maybe add in one more c prospect
Erik Karlsson (however much retained, if it’s 50% then add another high pick)
Let’s be real about the Penguins though, they will not win the cup or even come close with this current team.
They can either scrape by with a mid roster and barely make the playoffs and get late round draft picks or they can start rebuilding now and try to get a quick 3-5 year rebuild and get some high picks and stars to build their team around. If they don’t rebuild they are screwed and will be stuck in the middle of the league for the next 10+ years

I don't think EK can be retained on. Sharks are retaining a portion and the new rule is no double retention. Would have to eat the whole cap hit.

You can do a double retention to the maximum of 50% of the contract. But a team cannot trade that player after getting him and doing the second retention until a 75 day regular season time period has passed.
It is all just league speculation that Friedman was reporting on, and to be honest it's a moot point because the scenario is based on Pittsburgh trading him if they fall out of playoff contention.
If Toronto is also out of playoff contention, why would they trade for him and lose potential future prospects of draft picks when, if he is so eager to join the Swedish connections in Toronto, he can do so July 1 as a UFA that costs us no assets at all?

@Suffering I had not seen that clause in the double retention. Thanks for the info.

Trading that Col 1st will bite us just saying, Col isn’t gonna have a great season. I’m calling it now. That Carlson offer sheet screwed up everything so bad…. Now, the Avs are in a situation and they’ll badly need cheap ELC’s etc to fill in spots and they’re gonna have to move people around to keep competitive with the crunch.
We hold on to that pick it could end up being just outside the top 10 this yr. Jus watch.

I think Colorado will have a lesser point total this year moreso because the division around them got stronger rather than salary issues. They will still try and go for it this year but they will after the season is done probably make some trades to dump off salary even if they win the cup.
Makar's deal doesn't affect them this year but will next season when it kicks in. Their issue is the cupboards are bare in the prospects futures.

Whether they retain or not, Rielly would have to go the other way in this trade, plus Joshua, to make the money work.
