Could the Leafs make this insane trade?

Tor: Knies Danford Hildaby 1st 2027 and both 2nd’s in 2027

CBJ: Werenski Merchenko

That’s a pretty big package for those two. I just don’t know if it’s enough but to break it down the Jackets get top 6 player to replace Merchenko, they get a D prospect that isn’t to far off being NHL ready and they get a young cost controlled backup with 3 picks.

For the Leafs they get number 1D and a right winger.

If I’m the Leafs I jump at try and do it without adding Cowan, but here’s the top six

Mckenna Matthews Merchenko
Cowan Tavares Nylander

Then a top pair of either
Werenski Tanev or Werenski Raddysh

It’s a win now move but again idk if it’s enough but keep in mind the Jackets lose the leverage with both players saying they are not sticking around so maybe the Leafs try and use that.

Yes, they can. There’s been chatter that Rielly would be part of the deal as well to replace Werenski most likely with retention ($2m) if he’s willing to wave to go to Columbus.

@champ Rielly won’t waive for Columbus. He wants to go west but they could bring in a third team to make it work.

That's a big package and as you said, makes Leafs better overall now, but really hurts the future for sure. If Werenski agrees to come here, I am not concerned about the re-sign, he already wants to be here.

The issues will be if him and Matthews wants to stay together, what will it take to keep them and would they waive if wanting to move them instead.

LukeFox is just bitter cause he put one of the most ridiculous proposals to date on this site and I called him out on it and ppl gave me a thumbs up. FYI there is no need to add a 3rd team on this trade proposal cause at the end of the day there is no cap issue here for either team.

If Rielly doesn’t want to wave to be with his buddy Knies, Hildeby and Danford, then he’s not part of it, as simple as that, and u trade him to his western preference. CBJ can look for a Werenski replacement through UFA via another trade or Leafs offer OEL, or dare I say, McCabe.
