Well Nylanders name keeps coming up in Seattle. Past rumours involved Shane Wright and Jake O’Brien and other pieces. They desperately a high scoring winger out there. I think a fair deal would be the Leafs trading Nylander, and Reilly and our best 2!d round pick in 2027 along with 3rd round pick in 2027, and in return We get Brandon Montour, Jani Nyman, and Jake Obrien and one Seattles first rounders this year.
This ensures us having a 1st this year and we get a ton of salary cap freed up.
Gives us improvement on D. A great up and coming centreman and a big up and coming right winger who did not look out of place in the NHL when called up at the end of the year. I would love to see us land Maholtra in the draft if we keep our own pick. The. He and Obrien could be reunited in Toronto. Wright may still pan out but I think Obrien will be a better one and Nyman fits replacing Nylander on the right side. Pipe dream possibly but worth a shot.

Sorry for typos. On the Via Rail and on a rough section of track.

I don't know if Seattle wants Rielly, and not sure they want to give up Montour, who logs the most ice and is on the PP.
If Wright and O'Brien are coming the Leafs way for Nylander, I could see maybe Seattle willing to add Lindgren.
Nice thing for Seattle is they have no immediate cap issues to deal with either.
Nylander for Lindgren, Wright and O'Brien.

I don’t dislike Wright, I just see a bigger upside with Nyman. Also with him being a right winger. And a big right winger.
My view is we are offering Nylander and 2nd and a 3rd for Montour. Nyman, O’Brien and a First Reilly is a cap dump. They either take it or the deal is off the table.

Not too bad Suffering. @RLF It has to be Montour or Dunn coming back, we need an offensive pic moving D. We already have 4 Lindgren type D on our team. I like the direction Suffering but if we do that Matthews will want to go and we have to move Stolarz, plus we may already get that too 5 pick if the draft lottery doesn’t screw us.
We could get a lot of young talent for these packages and rebuild. Also not sure if Montour or Dunn would be the right guy if we are rebuilding. I still think a Mintyukov is the way to go if we rebuild. But I know, easier said then done.

Guys, it's not about what I want, I said what they might be willing to do if the deal revolves around Wright and O'Brien for Willy. What I would like is different.

Who gives a crap about the salary cap when it comes to this team? We kick Marner out for cap space and we’re golfing all the way to the bank. This team doesn’t spend properly, doesn’t retain young talent, and nobody who controls where they go wants to play here.
So how about we keep our superstars, let them play, and sign/gamble on whoever wants to play on defence on this team that’s a UFA, and fire the coach now before he runs the team in the ground and works them to injury just to juggle the lines. Play the kids and we’ll be fine.

@ Clarky. If we get their first round pick and keep ours, then when Matthews sees the return of the trade and the picks and realizes how Montour can change the D, I think he stays. If he doesn't... well, no problem we max him out somewhere as well. This scenario still doesn't send us to rebuild.
It is still part retool and part mini rebuild. I like the idea of having Knies as a power forward left winger and then really making it hard for line matching by having a guy like Nyman as a power forward right winger on the line following that first line.

@LeafsGM78 You said we don’t retain young talent but you had a post not long ago trading Knies. In fairness I have also posted Knies trades. In my opinion if there is a trade out there that can improve the team and put us in an upward trajectory no player should be untouchable.

I agree, but I haven’t seen a trade like that yet. Knies is a proven player. I was referring to, hysterically, the Leafs don’t have patience in developing players, Minten, Steeves to name a few recent. I’d like to see the kids play next year and have it become a regular thing because, from my perspective, all successful teams promote from within.
