This is a suggestion for next seasons roster.
1)
Toronto Trades:
Rights to JVR, Soshnikov, Bracco and a 2nd rounder in 2018.
To Minnesota
Minnesota trades Nino Niedereitter
To Toronto
2)
Toronto Trades
A. Nielsen and a 2018 3rd rounder
To Arizona
Arizona trades Jason Demers to Toronto.
Niedereitter can be a solid JVR replacement at 5.250x5yrs, only cost an extra 1m a season.
Toronto adds Demers to Top 4 defence who makes 3.870m for next 4 years. I could see Arizona being interested in Leivo as well
These are both nice contracts and serve purposes.
I would sign A. Vermette as a UFA to play 4th line. He is getting older but is one of the better face off leaders in the league every year. I would sign him for 1.400 x 2 years. He also adds some scoring to a gritty 4th line.
I resign Komarov at 2.00 x 3yrs.
Niederaitter - Matthews - Brown
Marleau - Nylander - Marner
Komarov - Kadri - Kapanen
Martin - Vermette - Hyman
Rielly Demers
Gardiner Zaitsev
Borgman - Hainsey
Andersen
Pickard
(interchangeable Def = Rosen and Dermott. Liljegren if he is deemed ready.
Other UFAs of interest are Darcy Kuemper, Chad Johnson, C. Dehaan.

Everyone seems to think that Garret Sparks is all of a sudden an NHL goalie. There are tons of goalies who have incredible AHL numbers every season and then choke in the Bigs.
I would like to give Sparks another try in the NHL. BUt his incredible AHL numbers even before a couple years ago didn't help him survive in 17 games in the NHL.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if we never saw Sparks play another NHL game. It sucks. I hope he gets another chance to prove himself but I think he is done.
Pickard is undervalued as well. I think his skill set is better than a back up but not quite a starter. He is 25, and every stint he has in the bigs he has proven reliable with a BAD Colorado team. 28-44-6, 2.77, .914.
Pickard is a keeper and I would not trade him. I think he wuld be more than happy to be a career backup for a team like Toronto.

I know your comment is based on a $75 million dollar cap, but for what its worth, the cap is expected to go up to $80 million, not for sure though.
Also, Gleason and Cowen come off the books as well and that is an extra 2.083m approximately.
Marleau needs to be added too at 6.25m.
