Now that we've made the playoffs the Jack Adams and Calder races are over.

The leafs defence is young and inexperienced. Everyone sees the growth of the rookies but fails to see the growth of players like Rielly, Carrick or zaitsev.
Time will tell but I think Rielly and Carrick are going to be a great 1-2 in the future.

I like Polak as a 5-6. He doesn't give the puck up like Gardiner or Hunwick, skates well for his size and is tough to get off the puck. Can be useful on PK as long as it's not with Hunwick.
2 yr for 4 mill is probably the most I'd be willing to pay.

I'm not sure we were watching the same game. We out shot them 30-18, had far more chances on net and possessed the puck more. A team of rookies and you expected them to make it into the playoffs without a fight?
Rielly is barely 23 and consistently plays against the best the NHL has to offer. Along with that he's playing behind a ton of rookies who, even though talented, are still progressing defensively. Give him time, he'll get even better. Gardiner is only breaking out now and he's 4-5 years older.
Rielly may never be a true #1 like doughty, karlsson burns etc. Trying to get someone like that is unrealistic. They are drafted. Rarely they are traded before they show their true colours. Personally, I don't think much will change on our blue line this summer. Our top 4 dmen are 22,23,25 and 27. This is zaitsevs first year and carricks first full year. There is so much growing left to happen that is would be silly to change much. Our D will get stronger over summer. Our rookies will get stronger over summer and will get better defensively.
We have a team full of rookies. Why is everyone so surprised that we are not great defensively?
We just made the playoffs on year 1 after tear down. This is any rebuilding teams dream. Why would we change anything?
