The Leafs have more than enough talent up front, they need a hard nosed spark plug , an on ice General that leads by example, Wilson does it in Washington, Reaves does it in Vegas. Go get Ferland or Simmonds or whoever it is , they need a guy to fire them up.
They have more talent than they've had in years , you have to trade good to get good, they've never been in a better position to get what they need.
They have the assets for a top 3 defenceman and a hard nosed forward.
This team needs to be shaken up

Gardiner and Johnsson for Kassian and a prospect? Kassian is the type of player they could use but not at that price, I think he plays about 12 minutes, Johnsson and Gardiner probably play around 30 combined. Either one of Johnsson or Gardiner could fetch that return on their own.

Ekblad will cost a lot more than that, you can start with a 1st then add at least 2 serious pieces . Teams would be lining up if they thought he was available.

JVR and Bracco included for Faulk? Too much in my opinion.

Leafs could definitely use a McQuaid type of defenceman, but I think somebody will offer more than Birman and a 6th.

I agree they have moved from trading players for picks to trading picks for players . However, the salary cap era may dictate an old fashioned hockey trade, player for player or player plus pick (s) . Lou Lamariello wasn't shy to make these types of trades during the Devils glory days.
