My short answer to this is no. however if you dig deeper you see similarities from this past summer to this summer coming. The similarity is the best UFA available is from Toronto. Tavares was last year and the affects of it at moment seem to be Nylander. this summer Seguin is the big UFA and if Toronto decides to bring Seguin back to Ontario it would cost another 11 million thus costing Matthews.

Why not skip everything and do this high value deal while resigning Seguin before he hits open market. the value of his deal is pretty close but is it worth risk of losing Seguin this summer. I'd rather keep what we have and go from there.

Great deal just depends what you truely want and the cost of getting that want.

Seguin is signed. 8x$9.85 after this year. Dallas Locke’s him up already. I like the terms. Thought you got good value with Seguin under $10M.

Lol. Dallas wasn’t going to let Seguin even come close to testing free agency. They basically gave him what he wanted. And they got a pretty good deal. Leafs should
trade for him. Lol.

I must of been under a rock on set 13th. Didn't even realize he was signed.

Great deal for Seguin. he must really love Dallas.

Now for your deal. get a possible young stud D, a solid checking C, a stud C. and a prospect.

If that prospect was a better prospect this would be a better deal. Matthews plus Dermott is even for Seguin and Heiskanen. but Kadri for faska a douglas just doesn't get my juices going.

With Seguin signed this deal is a lot closer

My opinion is iwouldnt do it but if push came to shove on signing Matthews if he pulls a Nylander than this deal works.
