Way too much dude for Montour.

Really I think it’s too little, Montour is still young and is already a top 4 d, I think you would have to give up a good prospect, a first, and a good ready now player to get him.

I’m on mostleaf’s side on this one. Much too little.

Guys / Gals - I don't like to give up 1'st Rounders in trades unless really high end stuff (e. g. Tavares) .
Would like to pick up Montour for Brown, Borgman + 2'nd in 2019.

Anyway, that's what I prefer - good proposed Trade for Montour.

@Leafs_GM

With a username like that, I feel like I’m talking to myself here.

But anyway, Montour is a very highly rated prospect and is capable of playing 1RHD already. His first full year of NHL he had 32 points and was +16. Already rated in the top 50 of NHL defensemen, he has enormous upside and will be a real star in the NHL for many years and can be controlled for the next decade. This young man has a very bright future and is worth much more than the offer here.

Brandon Montour is an undersized, skilled defenceman which the Leafs have quite a bit of in the prospect pipeline. Borgman has similar upside to Montour so to add Brown a 20-25 goal scorer plus a 1st Rd pick is too much for Montour. This is the kind of package I would rather give up for Parayko. Nice try though.

@ ylamdermagic

Brown had 14 goals and 28 points last year. He is 4th line player in a role position. He is not a top line winger or even a top six player on a contending team. I appreciate you value him highly, but there is a very good reason he only makes just over $2M on a three year deal. He’s just not that good.

Show me a trade with a player that had 14 goals and 28 points that brought a return like Parayko or Montour, or even a 1st, and I will take you a lot more seriously.

Ducks lost Shea Theodore to Vegas in the expansion draft, why would they now trade Montour?
Montour is part of their top 4 along with Lindholm, Fowler and Manson.
Most teams do not trade one of their top 4 defenseman unless the return is overwhelming!

That is where you are wrong LeafsGM. Conor Brown has been a scorer through all levels of hockey. The Leafs have underutilized Brown and many of their players purposely, I may add to devalue their players somewhat. Brown has the versatility of being a top 6 player that could score 25 goals if he played on a good line consistently and not on a fourth line. Montour is not what the Leafs need. Leafs need tough as nails defencemen that can clear the front of the net. Leafs already have offensive defencemen who are not physical defencemen at all with the exception of Borgman.

Leafs get a top 4 defenseman in exchange for a late 1st round pick, a prospect in Borgman, who has yet to crack a weak Leafs D and a 3rd line right wing.
Why would Ducks want to do this?
They traded Vatanen last year and lost Shea Theodore to Vegas in the expansion draft.
I don't see them trading one of their top 4 defenseman for a package like this.

Zaitsev had 113 hits and 134 blocks in only 60 games last year. Which is much more than the much larger Hamilton, and only 7 less hits than the much larger Parayko, and all in 20 less games.

Hainsey had 91 hits and 169 blocks.

Both Zaitsev and Hainsey are over 6 feet and 200 lbs.

I love size probably more than anyone on this site, and virtually every one of my trades involve bringing in a giant of some sort. But you have to acknowledge and give credit where it’s due.

Leafs already have a couple very good defensive defensemen that aren’t afraid to throw the body and make hits. A couple inches and a few extra pounds doesn’t mean much if the incoming player doesn’t bring anything more to the table than what we already have.

As for Brown, I doubt Babcock, the world’s best hockey coach, is going to deliberately mid-use any of his players. He seeks to get the best out of every player on his team. Winning means everything to this man. Brown is not on our top lines because we have 6-9 other players who are better than he is. Simple as that.
