Rick Nash
Plus all of their RFA's
Trade Gardiner, assets to Winnipeg for Myers, who is at least a top 4D (he will be top 2 on leafs) and is much better then Hainsey, with the same # of years left so Liljegren can make the jump at the same time
Trade Hainsey, Mcbackup, Martin for late picks or AHL forwards (we have too many D and goalies) for cap space
Lines:
Nash/Tavares/Marner
Marleau/Matthews/Nylander
Johnsson/Kadri/Kapanen
Hyman/Letestu/Brown
*Lindholm, Grundström (both play in minors but called up if need be)
Reilly/Myers
De Hann/Zaitsev

These are my final suggestions, I say we go for it all, but we need a right d so we need to trade Gardiner, which means we need De Hann for 2 years until Dermott is ready for a top 4 role, which also gives Tavares a friend
Nash is signed 1 year to replace JVR and because he wants to take it slow with all the concussions he has gotten
Letestu has a 23 point season with Columbus so he is signed as the 4th line center for 1 year

The Jets would only trade Myers to gain cap space, so they wouldn't want Gardiner in return.

How long are you planning on signing DeHaan for? We could probably use him for at least 3-4 years. Even as Dermott passes him in depth chart, we will likely need DeHaan as placeholder for Sandin until he’s ready.

Myers as a one year rental is a good idea. You are right when you say he is better than Hainsey. But how do you plan on replacing Myers with Liljegren if you aren’t going to play Liljegren? At any rate, Hainsey is better than Carrick, whose contract also expires same time, and Hainsey may be retained in stead of Carrick for 3rd line.

Your lineups are good. Though I don’t think anyone seriously believes Rick Nash is even a consideration for top line role anymore.

This is exactly where the leafs hit cap issues.

Rick Nash is just for balance i know he isn’t top forward but he can still play there.
