Edmonton is open to trading the 10th pick, and realistically they are going to be a playoff team again so they will need some help right now.

Leafs: Gardiner, Sparks, Timashov
Oilers: 10th overall pick

The top order of prospects I think go like this

Dahlin
Svechnikov
Zadina
Tkachuk
Hughes
Boquist
Bouchard
Wahlstrom
Khotemi
Dobson
Veleno

So realistically we would be getting a solid prospect, and would make us better now (Because we can get rid of Gardiner) I would love Dubas to do this

I think everybody on this site would like to see Gardiner traded rather than have him leave for free agency. We’ve all proposed trading the big choker. If I was the real Leafs GM, I wouldn’t think twice about shipping him out of town just for blowing game 7 alone, let alone because of all his other faults. Realistically though, we are probably going to have to suffer another year of suffering watching him give the puck away and blowing his defensive plays. Trading Gardiner without having anyone to replace him (unless you have a lot of faith in Dermott) will make us much worse on defense, and Leafs are not going to get weaker before getting stronger again. I’m all for the one step back, two steps forward type thing. Especially since we are so far ahead in the rebuild. I doubt Leafs top brass feel the same way however.

What about win now theory? By the numbers, 10 should be better than 25, but not guaranteed? . From most of the Leaf chatter; mine included, Maple Leafs are in a win now mode. I doubt the Oilers are going to compromise their tenth just to make the playoffs?
Gardiner is terrific, above average offensive D - man, and yes, he's not a stay at home D - man, and yes he makes mistakes. But, as much as he imploded in game 7, at least he showed - up and gave an effort, while other vital assets just showed - up? I think Jake is more valuable to the Leafs moving forward, especially in the distant future 2-3 years. Get a good character center from Buffalo? and then an annoying but effective D-man that makes smart plays? There's a few out there without selling the "farm. "

Cup is coming soon if a couple of significant but not systematic- like; cause it will bite us in the ass sooner than later.

Not sure that Gardner and a couple of Marlies will be enough to get the 10th overall pick but I like the way you think as a Leaf fan.

Although I like the idea and thought about posting. Giving up way too much. Gardiner + Timashov or Sparks + Timashov. Giving both Sparks and Garidner is way too much. Sparks is the best goalie not in the NHL right now.

Heres what I think the Leafs can do

To TOR: 2018 1st + 2019 1st

To EDM: D - J. Gardiner + G - G. Sparks + F - D. Timashov + 2019 3rd round pick.

Toronto’s 25 sparks and Johnsson for Edmonton 10 might get it done.
