Then I think the leafs trade zaitzev for a pick

Then with the leafs cap situation they sign Tavares and tell him we will do a three year window if we don't win the cup we will let you explore other teams everyone says he's possibly going to Montreal but with the year they just had I don't see it if you really break it down Montreal is very close to the islanders so why would he go to a team that may not be ready to make a cup run in my opinion leafs are the only Canadian team that has the cap space and are close enough to becoming a contender

Tyler Meyers plays on the jets 3rd pair and he has one year left and then he is a ufa that may not even re-sign with the leafs. Tyler Meyers is 28 years old and William Nylander is only 22 and Nylander still has so much potential.

I suggested that jets trade earlier and got slammed for it. apparently it is a huge overpay by the leafs .

Nylander can fetch us a better player than Myers Iâ€™m sure. Even if we have to pay a premium, I would try to land a younger player with more upside potential. Trading Nylander for an older pending UFA is asking for trouble.

I think we can do better than a pick for Zaitsev. We kinda need him right now for one thing. I assume the pick isnâ€™t going to be a high one. Zaitsev is on a decent contract for seven more years. Heâ€™s an NHL caliber player who is playing full time. Trading him for a pick is a gamble. Especially for a team that is weak on RHD.

Trading nylander is a trade that previous leafs gmâ€™s would make and the leafs would regret immensely. The rush to trade a 22 year old with back to back 60 point seasons is confusing me. We will not get fair value in a nylander for a defencmen trade. If the leafs are to improve there defence it will be from within or maybe free agency. Trading any of m@m would be a horrible decision.

Not sure I completely agree with you here. While I would be more than happy to we Nylander spend the duration of his career as a Leaf, I donâ€™t think trading him for a 1RHD is a mistake either. Leafs are stacked on wing. Itâ€™s always a good idea to trade from your area of strength to address your area of need. Developing Liljegren to be our 1RHD is going to be a few years at least. Look how long itâ€™s taken Rielly to get to his current level.

While I would like to see Leafs upgrade their defense through UFA acquisition, it might not be possible. Leafs need to be prepared to sacrifice a player like Nylander. Once Gardiner is gone, we will have a serious void for top two lines on defense.

They do that without trading for someone and let's be honest if the leafs go and sign a big name free agent they may have to get rid of nylander anyways and for zaitzev I think we need to move a dman is like to see holl get a chance with this club so zaitzev I chose to move for a pick just cause teams might shy away from him do to the long term commitment.
