So Eklund posted today about a rumour swirling that the leafs are in talks with the rangers (surrounding Mcdonagh) with a third party involved (apparently Carolina) . Rick Nash is suppose to be part of this deal aswell. obviously you can't trust Eklund and the rumours he throws out there but I'm posting my thoughts on it purely for content.

TORONTO
Get: Mcdonagh
Give: JVR, 1st, Bracco, Neilsen

CAROLINA
Get: JVR, Nash
Give: Jake Bean, 2nd, Julien Gauthier

RANGERS
Get: Jake Bean, Julien Gauthier, 1st (TOR), 2nd (CAR) Bracco, Neilsen
Give: Nash, Mcdonagh

*NOTE, JVR would have to agree on an extension with Carolina in order for these trades to be fair, i'm guessing it'll be a 6X6 extension.

Eklund is a joke with decent web page and mike in buffalo as his only assets.

I think that is quite abit from Toronto. Carolina and NYR win this big time.

You undervalued JVR yes he is a ufa but make it a sign and trade.

Am I really undervaluing JVR though? You'd be sending JVR with 2 B prospects, and a late first for a watered down top pair defencemen. He'd be our best defencemen. for this year and next.

Must be a Carolina fan. 3-team trades are always very tricky, which makes them so much fun to speculate about, but in this case, it’s an easy no from NY. Rangers will be wanting that package just for Nash. For McDonagh, you got to come up with another 1st and a prospect or two. Leafs package for McDonagh was fair, so it’s uo to Carolina to come up with the extra assets for Nash and JVR.

Eklund is a quack, Needs to lay off the sauce! This trade is so lopsided. Rangers win big time.

Essentially We are giving up JVR, a perennial 30 goal scorer, Brocco, Nielsen and our 1st round pick in this years draft, which is said to be very deep.

Sounds like the Leafs of old, win now mentality. Mortgage our future for today. I like Mcdonagh But with a 4.7M cap hit that expires after next season? Leafs would not be able to resign him, which means he and Gardiner walk.

If that 1st became a 2nd I think Lou would be a little more receptive to the idea.

#2 Why would Carolina want a 33 year old Rick Nash who has only broke the 50 point barrier once in the last 5 years? And in the process giving up 2 prospects and a 2nd round pick for 2 UFAs. Sounds like early retirement for Ron Francis if he makes this trade, he’s done in Carolina.
