Leafs offered a 5th for Glendenning and the Wings countered with a 2nd. Which, despite the high asking price, means they're willing to deal. How about putting a package together somewhat equivalent to a 2nd?

DET: Josh Leivo, 3rd rd pick
TOR: Luke Glendenning

Glendenning's contract is pretty favourable at l.8M. And while some would question the term, I might call it long-term stability at a position Babcock values, with a player he trusts. I say don't break the bank, but make it happen.

not bad

i would say leivo or 3rd

too much for 4th liner

wings need to eliminate some salary as they are up against so they may just take either or.

I would prefer Leivo and a 4th, but it's always tough trading within the division. Considering what the Leafs got for Sosh and what the Wings got for Mrazek, seems like Leivo's value is a 4th at best and I think the Wings are looking to really collect some futures for their roster cleanup. Leivo plus a 4th seems like the right value, but the Wings have some leverage so to make it happen, the Leafs might have to overpay just a tad.

Stay away from that guy his numbers are terrible!

He's winning faceoffs at 58% right now and is excellent both defensively and on the PK. Those are the "numbers" Babs is looking for in a 4C.

He scores at a rate worse than Martin, rarely (if ever) has played a full season, and has bad possession numbers.

He does play well defensively, he's cheap, and is good on faceoffs. He could be an add to a team looking to go deep into the playoffs.

However, the Leafs are better off putting Leo at 4th line center for decent offence, hitting, back checking, and good defence. Would be nice if Leo had better faceoff stats, but you can't have everything.

So forget Luke, and solve the problem mostly in house.

Use Leo, find the best LW to replace Martin (I would try the Goat on LW to make up for his lack of speed and add size), and upgrade the 3rd pair RHD with someone who can take over Martins duties.

Gudbranson would be perfect if he could only play hockey.

Glendenning: 0.298 pts/ game this year (14/ 47)
D. Moore: 0.250 pts/ game this year (11/ 44)
Komarov: 0.241 pts/ game this year (15/ 62)
Martin: 0.234 pts/ game this year (11/ 47)

Meanwhile Komarov spent the bulk of the year with Kadri, and most of Martin's points came with Willy or Mitch on a 4th line timeout. Glendenning hasn't played with anyone near that caliber.

Having Leo at C would be nice with the left shot/ right shot action between him and Kap, except Komarov has curling stones for hands.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the Leafs intend to go deep into the playoffs this year. Glendenning feels like a perfect fit.
