Leafs lose nothing (that they planned on using) and gain a D that might be able to help. D depth never hurt anyone.

Dunno why everyone on here thinks Toronto needs a RHD to play with Rielly. in two years yea, right now Hainsey is being the best out of Rielly and that pair should remain as is.

The real issue is the bottom pairing, Borgman can improve to a steady 5/ 6 D, Carrick is good but something needs to change and some completion on his side would be good. Not thrilled with the Gardiner and Zaitsev pairing either, both guys don’t like to engage in Thebes physical game if they can help it.

If Clendening were to win a spot over Carrick, include Carrick in a trade when moving Leo, Bozak or JVR. Personally would like to see them all traded because the Leafs have guys waiting (Johnson, Grundstrom, Aaltonen, Leivo, Kapanen) there’s guys ready right now.
Make trades with Western top dogs for some more youth pieces and picks. If the Leafs lose those players for nothing it’ll be tragic, the goal is the CUP and those three players will not determine whether they win a cup or not.

Sign JVR for a 5 or 6 year extension at $5.5 MM a year.

Leafs can afford him and than trade for Defenseman with Bozak and three prospects for a solid 4th Defenseman in the $3.5- 4.5 MM contract.

Than trade Gardiner + 1st or 2nd pick for for a top quality young defenseman at the level of Roman Josi that has a $4 -5MM four or five year contract.

Clendering is disappointing, but maybe still intriguing.

He's split time between the Yotes and the Roadrunners this season. I imagine that has more to do with Hjalmarsson and Demers.

He had a couple of pretty decent AHL seasons with the Ice Hogs. Last year with the Rangers was short, but pretty decent if you pro-rate the games over 82.

It doesn't seem that Sosh will stay with the Leafs for long. So worth a shot.

I like the NJ deal.

I like the JVR deal, but I think you can package up Bozak with others to get a return of; a late 1st/ top prospect, decent RHD prospect, and a good project; and I think that team is Anaheim.

I also think that Gardiner will be very tradeable this year with another year at 4M remaining. Trade him now at his peak apparent value. We already have lots of depth for the LHS. He should net a 1st and a good prospect.

I feel it's important to get 1st's in return for vets being moved, and those can be for later, like 2019, and 2020 to spread the talent incoming over the next few years.

We want the Leafs to challenge for a decade not the next two years, and that will require many changes in personnel to meet cap restrictions.
