Why would the leafs do this? They have one of the most powerful offences in the league. This move makes us weaker on defence and takes away from our depth for a player we don't need.

Galchenyuk was drafted the same year that someone else was taken by the Oilers (Yakapov) . Les habitants relax:) Leafs are not a rehabilitation team.

Galchenyuk's value has taken a bit of a hit. Toronto already has a log jam at forward. Weakening their defensive depth and giving up on Kapanen doesn't sound like a smart move on their part.
